Where the babies at?

If you happen to be in labor for two days prior to actually giving birth... go for the epidural, girl! It is not fun. Just kidding! My friend who is a nurse on the mommy/baby floor (alyson.stark on here... she never posts!) once told me that they joke that a really hardcore birth plan is a ticket fo...

Catchphrases

"Did I do that?" Family Matters

I feel like there were a ton on Full House "You got it dude!" "How rude" "Cut it out" "Have mercy!"
Those are pretty weak, but they come to mind.

Child care now costs more than in-state college tuition

Our daycare provider did not previously charge us to hold a spot in the summer, as she had not ever had a teacher's kid before. She snuck a new policy into our most recent contract about having to pay 50% of our regular cost to hold the spot in the summer when I am not working. So, essentially, we p...

Child care now costs more than in-state college tuition

I definitely went to daycares growing up, but when I think about it, I don't have many fond memories of it! I remember my daycare lady's son was so mean and would bully the other kids when his mom wasn't looking. He would push them, tease them, and I have a very weird memory of him threatening to ki...

Disney's live -action Mulan

I took a class in college about diversity in children's literature/media, and our professor loathed Mulan. We watched it in class while he paused and pointed out the major historical and cultural inaccuracies. He was Asian himself, so I think he had a deeper level of hate for it than most people. I ...

Deep Water Horizon - Mark Wahlberg - oil rig disaster

We read an article about this in 4th grade every year... there was some sort of cement seal that is supposed to prevent oil from leaking. There was far too much pressure on the cement seal, so it broke. When mud and oil spilled, gas also was released. A spark ignited the gas into a fiery explosion. ...

Things you've had to unlearn that your parents taught you

My parents always picked up after us when I was growing up. My brothers and I would leave our plates at the table after we were done eating, we would leave wrappers all over the house, toys out, etc. My mom and dad always cleaned up after our lazy butts, so we never learned better. As an adult I now...

I just came here to say that I love that kid with the speech impediment and missing front teeth. I want him to be my own child in the creepiest way. Love me a good speech impediment.

Where the babies at?

I was 10 lbs 3 oz when I was born, so I was pretty sure an elephant child was going to come out of me in the most unpleasant of ways. Thank goodness I married a little dude. [emoji6] My good friend and I had babies like 10 days apart and they both weighed a little over 6 pounds. Her husband is a big...

Bad Moms

One of my teacher friends wanted to see this yesterday so I went. I had really low expectations based on the trailer... It seemed like a lot of dumb mom stereotypes and cheap laughs. Because I had low expectations, I was very pleasantly surprised. I laughed out loud quite a bit. Some things were fun...

HBO's New Miniseries 'The Night Of' Is A Masterpiece

I am really enjoying this show. I like how it is examining things from all sides: prison dynamics, the judicial system, how something like this impacts a family, etc. It is delving into some perspectives I wouldn't necessarily have considered. I wasn't sure I would be able to get into this show afte...

Who's the bigger household name?

In related news: my little brother met and spoke to Debra Messing tonight. So, I think I'm actually a household name now by association? Not sure how the rules work exactly on that.

July (ridiculous comedy) - Mystery Men - Movie Meetup

I kinda didn't love it either. I fell asleep before we could finish the last 30 minutes. We then finished it the next day. I was only entertained by the final fight scene. I, too, thought the jokes were pretty forced.
