Mr. Robot (USA)

51244 From my understanding Elliot is in jail this season and none of it was real? Late reply, but not quite. The gist is that Elliot sent evidence of one of his previous hacks (his therapist's boyfriend) to the authorities at the end of season 1, so by the start of season 2 he's been arrested and ...

What to read?

A while back after reading a few Joe Abercrombie books (fairly gritty and soul-crushing stuff) and following some depressing real world news, I was in the mood for some more uplifting escapism. I've found that the works of Brandon Sanderson pretty well fit that pretty well -- over the past several m...

PC specs and 3Dmark scores

Yeah, but that could be for the best. 60 FPS still looks quite good to me so I'm not as spoiled as I could be whew man, playing Breath of the Wild did not feel good at times with its 30 FPS cap and frequent drops below that.

My monitor is only 1080p, but it's 144 Hz so I still benefit from the added power (at least in many games).

Ready Player One

My feelings about the book pretty much mirror CrckrJack's. My first read through of the book was entertaining enough for some of the suspense and fun of the contest, but when I went back to read it again more recently it really just felt like a huge pile of references without much in the way of clev...

I also appreciated the almost-subversion that the doctor was pretty much exactly what he presented himself as to the family.

Star Wars: Battlefront II

I've seen some posts on reddit that plausibly contend that EA's backtracking has all been basically a pre-planned part of their marketing strategy -- a means of maximizing revenue and extracting as much as possible from people who will tolerate the greedier incarnation of the business model, while c...

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Why do Europe wizards/witches use brooms but American ones constantly use teleportation? I think the reason broomsticks are more prominent in the Harry Potter series is that Harry and his friends are children throughout most of the films, and you don't learn to teleport until you're a teenager and ...

Energy can be a major limiter early on but after a bit of progression it becomes basically a non-issue. Using most tools consumes energy, but swinging your scythe does not. Eating food restores your energy.

Amazon and WB in talks for LotR series

This doesn't interest me all that much. It could be good, but I'm not sure how much of Tolkien lore really will adapt well for television, especially if they wouldn't just be doing a longer form version of the Lord of the Rings books, which the movies already did a decent job of. I think there are m...

Ah, yeah, I figured that the "1200 subs" bit was a joke but I forgot that Steam even had a livestreaming feature so I figured you might have a channel on Twitch that only your friends ever visit. :)

What's your Twitch channel, Tyler?

And I imagine Stardew Valley should run on any PC built in the last several years. Any modern integrated graphics should be able to allocate at least a gigabyte or two of memory.

Halt and Catch Fire on AMC

I started watching this show as it aired but got frustrated with it around the 4 or 5 episode mark and stopped watching. Some time after the second season aired I'd heard that it improved a lot though so I gave it another shot, and I really enjoyed it. The last few episodes of the series got me more...

Re: Fargo, I suppose that's true. I'm not sure what would fill that vacancy then. Probably Bojack Horseman, or The Expanse.

I am. The second season was a bit uneven and weaker than the first overall (in my opinion) but it was still mostly a pleasure to watch. I appreciated how they depicted the aftermath of the events of season one in a fairly low key and believable way.
