The Leftovers on HBO

Postby Tyler » Mon Jul 07, 2014 7:49 am

Just started last week. 7.5 so far on IMDB. Kind of low compared to most HBO shows, but may check it out. Cwilkins watched the pilot and liked it.

Revolves around mysterious disappearances, world-wide, and specifically follows a group of people who are left behind in the suburban community of Mapleton. They must begin to rebuild their lives after the loss of more than 100 people.

I like this show quite a bit, but I'm not sure why. Not a whole lot has happened, but after the first two episodes, I can feel the tension building pretty dramatically.

I'm not sure how the cult plays a part in this show, or what the dogs will end up doing, but I'm curious enough to keep watching.

This last episode had a different feel to it. I liked it, but it was definitely different. Followed the 7th doctor throughout a couple crappy days he was having. Had almost no other main characters.

TV podcast is raving about this season and how they suspect a lot of Emmy noms or wins. Agree with that Wilkins? Worth starting?

So, I have to say, the first episode of this season sucked bawls. Made no sense, and I hated it. I hated it so much that I just stopped watching for like...9 weeks. However, over Thanksgiving break, we got caught up on shows and movies, so Janelle and I were like, you know what!? F It, lets watch this failed show.

Started it up again two days ago...On episode 5 now. This season is amazing. They started a new town where everything is happening and cut all the bullshit storylines that were happening, but managed to keep the stories for those individuals both intriguing and engaging. I remember why this was one of my favorite shows last year. It's fantastically written and acted.

One of the biggest things though, is the music. The music is so well done in this, that it makes the already well written and acted scenes that much better. I've got to say, I never expected to see an episode where both an actor singing Rick Astley's 'Never going to give you up' and an acoustic Grease's "You better shape up" just be amazing.

I know none of you watch this, but you should.

TV podcast guys said this season of The Leftovers makes the top 3 best single seasons of TV ever. They think the whole show may overtake Breaking Bad.

The Leftovers on HBO

This comes back in January for the 3rd and final season. I feel like I need to catch up by then, only 20 episodes out so it shouldn't be hard.

This seems like a show that generates a lot of discussion so I want to give Wilkins someone to bounce things off of.

Let's see if I can do it. That is only 1 episode a week. With Preacher done I think I can take on this task.

I questioned my podcast dudes on this because they said Stranger Things was the best thing they've scene this year, but The Leftovers s02 was also this year. They answered my question on this week's episode and said Stranger Things is great, but The Leftovers is by far better. They even went on to say s02 of Narcos is better than Stranger Things.

Jocelyn and I will maybe watch the 2 seasons of Narcos over the next month and then watch The Leftovers before s03 starts.

I was going to start this without Jocelyn, but she wants to check out the pilot at least. I was researching the premiere date and it looks like it is Spring 2017, not January. That gives me an extra couple of months to get caught up.
