Fair to compare it to Master of None? I didn't always find that show funny, but i felt like the characters acted and talked like real humans

I watched the first episode of this last night. I enjoyed it, it's a lot darker/more dramatic than comedic than I thought but still had really funny moments.

Better Things has Pamela Adlon. It looks similar in tone to Louie which she had a recurring role in.

Agreed. I like it, but I would not call this a comedy. It is a drama that has some good laughs.

cwilkins88 wrote:So, the first two episodes were aired. It's aimed as a comedy, but that's not really it's intention. It's being compared a lot to Azis Ansari's Master of None.

Basically, they have very huge controversial issues that they discuss. Gun violence, white/black interactions, prison brutality, but they mask it in such a subtle way that it's not overly in your face.

Example: Gambino gets sent to jail for being a bystander in something. While he waits downstairs to be booked, a mentally handicapped black man comes in with a hospital gown (arrested), and basically starts talking to himself, going to the bathroom and drinking toilet water, etc. Some of the poeple go "Oh man! That guy is in here every week." The guards are on a first name basis with this guy, and everyone is having a great time. Gambino sits in the back "He's here every week? Why? This man clearly needs help" The guards tell him to shut up.

After the man plays his antics and drinks toilet water, he playfully spits it at a guard, because he is clearly disabled. The guard immediately hits the alarm, three men tackle him, and they beat the shit out of him with a baton while everyone watches and says nothing.

The show is also very funny though, and I found myself laughing out loud quite a bit more than I thought.

This might be the greatest episode. It's taken from the style of a late night psychological talk show between a behavioralist and paperboi. Talking about trans sexual and trans racial people. Goes into a segment about a 35 yr old black person who identifies as a white guy named Harrison. Hilarious

You can watch the whole series in the time it takes to watch an average movie. Get on it boys!

Math does not check out.
Looking at the average movie length of the ten highest-grossing movies of each year for the past decade, Hollywood blockbuster's have gone from just under two hours to more than 130 minutes in length.

11 episodes this season x 22 minutes each = 242 minutes

The only movies I considered for my math was Superman directors cut.

Also, I meant, up to date. 7 epsiodes x 22 minutes = 154 minutes. Still a bit long :P

Tyler wrote:Source of the post Sounds very heavy for a comedy. I'll probably check them out this weekend. Is Don Glover's character in the show actually his rapper name Gambino?

His name is Darius. For the show, he said he won't do any singing or rapping by himself of any sort.

INCORRECT. His name is Earnest, and they call him Earn. Darius is Paperboi's buddy who hides a gun in a cereal box and may have lost a few bullets in the cereal.

Also I just started watching this last night. It's pretty good. I find it more like a silly plot line with completely serious overtones. The juxtaposition between those two make for a pretty great show.
