Alison Brie to Star in Netflix Wrestling Comedy 'GLOW' From Jenji Kohan

Postby Blue Jackets » Tue Aug 30, 2016 6:43 am

Alison Brie is hopping into Netflix's wrestling ring.

The Community and BoJack Horseman favorite has booked the starring role in the streaming giant's Jenji Kohan comedy GLOW, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

GLOW — aka Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling — is inspired by the real story of the 1980s female wrestling league. The 10-episode comedy is set in Los Angeles and will showcase big hair and body slams and tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. The comedy is based on the professional women's wrestling syndicated TV series that existed in the '80s. The comedy was picked up to series in May.

Brie will star as Ruth, a struggling actress whose dreams of fame take a surprising turn when she's thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women's wrestling.

I like Alison Brie, I would watch this.

The only live action stuff I've seen her in as been Community and Get Hard. What was her romcom? Friends Sleeping with Friends?

Just finished the first season. Loved it. Marc Maron stole the show.

Awesome. We finished Fargo last night so I'm going to suggest this as our new show while waiting for the weekly Wire episode.

We watched the pilot last night. I was expecting an hour show. The first episode was 37 minutes and the others looked to be around 30. Should be a pretty easy watch.

If you sleep with your best friend's spouse and they found out and start fighting you, don't fight back. You're already the bad guy, you don't need to beat them up too

We watched the 2nd and 3rd one last night.

He is so mean to Brie's character in the 2nd episode! 3rd episode he lightens up a little bit.

I think the series will pick up now that the girls all have their stereotypical roles. It was funny when they were all siding with the producer and excited to work with him, but he turns out to be worst than the director...but they get over his racism really quickly. Who will Brie be?!

I knew I recognized the producer! It's Piz from Veronica Mars! I think he was introduced in the 3rd season and he's the one she dumps in the movie to go back to Logan.

My boss, who is a big fan of wrestling told me to stop watching the show where I am and to watch the documentary first. He said I would enjoy the show more because of it.

I think this is also on Netflix. It's only 70 minutes. I'll suggest to Jocelyn we watch this before watching more episodes.

We watched this over the weekend. Documentary does a good job of showing just how big of a deal Glow was (for a short amount of time) and how the ladies had to be in character almost 24/7. There were good and bad girls, and they were not allowed to hang out with each other, even when cameras were off.

It's fun to see how the tv show characters are loosely based off of characters from the original program. There was an american lady who played the role of a Russian. We just watched the episode last night where Ruth first uses her Russian accent.

Watched 2 episodes yesterday. Lady Liberty agreed to fight Ruth because none of the other girls were working out. They had their first free match, which ended poorly when the husband showed up. We got our first taste of the raps.

The documentary features some of the real raps used. They were hilarious.

I finished this awhile back. I liked it enough, although there was really no real wrestling until the final episode.

The raps are so awful.

We watched ep 08 last night (I think?). It was the one where Ruth found out she was pregnant. I was not expecting the show to go there. Pretty serious stuff.
