'True Detective' Season 3 Revived, David Milch Joins Team

After being off-the-air for two years — and following and plenty of speculation about its future — HBO’s True Detective is making some progress behind the scenes toward a new season.

EW has exclusively learned that creator Nic Pizzolatto has penned at least the first two episodes for a potential third edition of the acclaimed anthology crime drama.

We have also learned that Emmy-winning writer-producer David Milch — the mind behind dramas such as Deadwood and NYPD Blue — is coming on board to work with Pizzolatto.

Won't be checking this out unless I hear positive things about it. I never even started season 2

I won't be watching this day 1. Will wait for reviews to come out. I'll avoid like I did s02 if need be.

My podcast Bros are covering this so I'll be watching next month. Not sure if Jocelyn will be joining me or not.

I wasn't expecting 2 episodes on Sunday. Great start to the season. This is going to be another home run like s01

'True Detective' Season 3 Revived, David Milch Joins Team

Watched 301 last night. Story is really interesting so far, follows Mahershala Ali i the 80's, 90's, and 2015. Really cool how they link all 3 timelines together via interviews. Ali is such a great actor, no wonder he's won 2 Oscars. His performance when he finds...evidence... is so good.

S01 had some spooky elements to it and so did this. Probably for the best I decided to watch without Jocelyn.

Eager to watch 302 and listen to my podcast. I guess 01 and 02 aired on the same night so the podcast episode is discussing both of them.

HBO loves.the unreliable narrator. Bernard in West World. Amy Adams in Sharp Objects. Now Ali in this. I love it. What's even real?!

About to start 304 and I want to post the tinfoil hat theory here before I read it or hear about it on a podcast.

The lady conducting the interview in 2015 is the missing girl from 1980. She seems way too young for that, but I'm putting it out there.

I'm liking this more than s01 I think, because it's not *as* weird. The 3 timelines add some layers to the story but it doesn't get too weird like "time is a flat circle"

I only teared up 4 times in the finale, so I have that going for me.

There were some small surprises along the way, but nothing was OMG WHAT?! The pay off for me was Roland and Hayes reconnecting.

I want to say it was less high concept than s01 so it's more approachable, but the 3 timelines and dementia offered another new level of television.

Worth a watch for sure. The mystery is interesting but ultimately isn't the reason I stuck around.
