Holzhauer’s 21st victory adds $80,615 to his wallet and skyrockets his total earnings up to $1,608,627. He’s surpassed Julia Collins’ 20-game winning streak from 2014. Now, the only “Jeopardy!” champ left in his crosshairs is the notorious Ken Jennings.

Lol, that's funny to imagine Trebek swearing in his very formal, matter-of-fact tone.

I probably said this already in the thread, but my FIL who is smart and loves Jeopardy stopped watching because it wasn't fun for him anymore. However, all of us are bandwagon fans just for James.

James Holzhauer Explains His Controversial Final Jeopardy Bet: Why He Didn’t Risk It All | The Action Network

Controversial bet? It's the only bet that makes sense.
1st had $26,600.
Holzhauer had $23,400.
3rd had $11,000.

If he were to bet it all he'd have $46,800, which means he knows first place must bet $20,201. Which she does; she must bet this amount because she can't risk Holzhauer doubling and winning.

Therefore the ONLY way Holzhauer wins is if 1st place misses the question. If 1st place misses the question she goes down to $6399. This means Holzhauer doesn't need to bet it all. Actually he doesn't have to bet anything, or even answer the question. He could do nothing, end up with $23,400, and win if 1st loses and 3rd doubles up.

But in the best case scenario he still wants to maximize his winnings. So instead he looks at 3rd place. With $11k, 3rd place's double up would take him to $22,000. Therefore the optimal bet is for Holzhauer to bet enough so if he's wrong he ends up with $22,001. Therefore he bets $23,400 - $22,001 = $1399.

I'd expect no other bet from Holzhauer.

James Holzhauer, the "Jeopardy!" champion who won 32 straight games, earning a total of $2,462,216, has donated a portion of his winnings to a Chicago-area pancreatic cancer walk in Alex Trebek’s name.
On one hand, that's awesome and any amount is great. That's more than 99.9% of us have ever donated and it's for a worthy cause. Props to Holzhauer, a great champion and he should be applauded for this. This is a great move all-around.

On the other hand, "portion of his winnings" definitely comes off as misleading/clickbaity considering it's "only" .04% of his winnings. Definitely makes it seem like more than it is to make for a better headline. Kind of lame and takes away from what should be a nice, heartwarming story.

Idk...any amount is a nice amount?

As the article said, 1,109.14 is Jame's daughters birthday. On the last episode James played his daughter made Alex a get well card. I like the amount for this reason.

Sad stuff. He handles and presents this so professionally though.
