I started watching this awhile ago. They are on the second season, but I'm still on the first.

The first season is about a guy who visits his hometown after a long absence. There were a lot of children murdered when he was like 11, and so he left and never came back. The kids were being influenced by a show called 'Candle Cove'. Basically a shitty children's pirate show with a skeleton called Jawbone.

It causes the children to act erratically and murder.

Well now that the main character is back, the kids start acting off again.

It's a slow horror/thriller show, but it's really growing on me.

So this is more like American Horror Story than Black Mirror as far as episode structure?

Yes, the whole season is connected. I don't know if season 2 and 3 borrows all/some of the same actors, but its based on a different thing, so I imagine it does what AHS does.

So, I'm going to post this entire season in spoiler tags, so if you dont want to know what happens, don't read. Season 2 is essentially a giant escape room with obviously more intricacies. A house will randomly appear out of nowhere each year, and it'll have six rooms in it. You can bail at any time, and most people don't escape the sixth room. In a nutshell, thats what the house does. I started watching this and it took three different times to get through episode 1. Ep 2 was slow, but the rest were amazing.

You said they could bail at any time, what happens to them then?

If they left before the sixth room, I think nothing happens, they just appear outside the house and all is well. But if they enter in the sixth room, you either defeat the monster after you, or it kills you. I don't think there is any way around it. Even if you were to escape the house, the monster inside would keep calling to you until you or it died.

Did I miss the point of them going into the house? Why wouldn't you bail right away if there are no consequences, especially when they other options is likely death?

They thought it was like a pop-up horror escape room type of thing, like a Banksy installment. Everything is fairly low-stakes in the first five rooms. Scary, but it doesn't seem like they are in any real danger. Once you enter the sixth room, you can't escape.
