I ended up seeing the cut scene from the video game. They happen upon a dead body and Bill says it's Frank and that Frank was his partner.

Yeah, when she was messing with the single zombie in the basement that's what I was thinking as well.

Ok so I wasn't exactly right, I wasn't exactly wrong.

Watching the show makes me want to replay the game. Maybe just a story difficulty playthrough sometime soon.

Wow, they gave that relationship so much extra meaning.
I wonder how early in their relationship Frank left Bill. Was this like a 5 year relationship?

Looks like Ellie and Bill have a much longer interaction in the game. I did read some people felt they were robbed of not seeing them together in the show

That's a nice positive of VOD streaming, you can change the release date if needed. Article says it will still air fir the first time on HBO cable on Sunday night, not Friday.

Ep 4 thoughts:
It's fun seeing Joel start to open up and become a little more caring toward Ellie.
Sucks that every post-apocalyptic survivor group is instantly a threat at all times. I get being cautious toward "outsiders" but they literally wanted to instantly murder Joel and Ellie rather than see why they are there.
Any game players know what's lurking under the building? They seemed simultaneously terrified of it but also lackadaisical about it that they could just close the door and "deal with it later".
Good observation (and foreshadowing) about Joel's hearing by Ellie.
Sort of a predictable "cliffhanger" ending but I'm not mad about it.

I'm currently facing the dilemma of having played through roughly 25% of the game and watched 2 episodes of the show - I want to play through the game first...GAHHH

Just watch it. The show isn't even half way done for the season. Watch now while the show is consuming all pop culture and then play the game during the 18-24 month break.

SPOILERS responding to Wags's post.
It's fun seeing Joel start to open up and become a little more caring toward Ellie.
-----I agree. A small minority were upset that ep3 didn't have much Joel/Ellie because they didnt think there would be enough time to build the relationship this season, but they are wrong. Ep3 had plenty of relationship scenes and e04 continues to show you can do a lot to show their bounding in such little ways...like Joel laughing at a joke. Probably the first time he's laughed in years.

Sucks that every post-apocalyptic survivor group is instantly a threat at all times. I get being cautious toward "outsiders" but they literally wanted to instantly murder Joel and Ellie rather than see why they are there.
-----Yep. I get wanting to protect yourself, but there is protecting and then there is being on the offensive just to kill/loot. I also thought it was a little cringe when the new lady boss said "What if Henry got a radio. They have to be working with Henry. Search the whole city and kill them!" Talk about jumping to conclusions.

Good observation (and foreshadowing) about Joel's hearing by Ellie.
--Oh yeah, You knew they were going to get jumped that night because of Ellie calling out his hearing

Sort of a predictable "cliffhanger" ending but I'm not mad about it.
---Nice little 2 episode Kansas City arc.

Yeah, with that and killing the doctor and then we find out that Henry has a kid with him. They're really pushing hard for her to be an irredeemable bad guy. And saying "we'll deal with it later, don't tell anyone" about the big monster under the building, that is certainly going to go poorly for them.

I don't know what's under the basement. Obviously infected or fungus spreading, but you don't switch out of Joel's POV very often in the game.
I will be happy to inform you Ellie does have a terrible pun book in the game. There are times when you can prompt Ellie to tell Joel a few jokes.

Episode 5 was another emotional one. I watched Friday night since it was released early this week. Anything with kids is automatically gonna be more emotional.

What is the giant fungus monster that came up out of the ground? Seems like that thing didn't start as human.

Bloater...according to what I heard.

Yes. Another emotional one. I thought for a second Ellie's blood would actually work. I knew Henry would take his own life as soon as he processed what he did to Sam.

I enjoyed the unlimited ammo in the sniper's nest

This thread is an adequate comparison between the game and the show.

I laughed quite a bit reading that, and I agree 100%. I started playing the game to get ahead when watching the show - I'm quite a bit ahead now so I should be good to watch the next few episodes when they are released.

According to the official HBO podcast that final night scene fight took 3 weeks of night shooting. Thats so much better than shooting say for night and applying a bad filter like House of the Dragon did. I appreciate TLOU for doing it properly

Ep 5 was extremely good. Better than than Bill and Frank episode in some ways

Bloater is kind of mini bosses in the game. Also I'm pretty sure you have unlimited ammo as Joel in the sniper nest as well. Staying faithful to the game.
