New Feature: Recent Topics

Postby Tyler » Tue Jun 27, 2017 10:12 am

Wilkins requested a feature on the site that is similar to Tapatalk's "Timeline". I found a plugin for recent topics and you've probably noticed it on the homepage.

By default this displays on top, but can be changed to the right or the bottom. You can also turn it off completely.
Here's where to find the settings:
1) Click the icon that looks like the old school MSN dude on the top right of the page
2) Select "User Control Panel"
3) Click "Board Preferences"
4) Click "Edit Display Options" on the left
5) At the bottom of that page you will find the settings

Here is what mine looks like with the recent posts on the side

If everyone hates it I will simply remove it.

Oh man, I just came here and got super confused how it was showing topics but I wasn't in a particular forum.
I think I like it. Less clicking to get to unread stuff. I'll keep it on for now.

Agreed, it is confusing at first. I wanted it to be on the right by default to help with confusion, but I could only get that to stick for non-logged in members.

I tried disabling for you, but I can't find the per-user option. Sorry! You'll have to turn it off in your own settings

Also, the colors of the titles were confusing me. The colors are based off of who created the topic. Admin = red. Mod = Green

Good call. I always click the arrow, even though it's not necessary on other parts of the website. Old habits die hard.

This is kind of annoying because red = unread to me.

Likewise, that's why I had to research and see why there were different colors. I guess just look at the icons, and not the color?

I'll see if I can find a way to override it in the CSS later

Did an easy fix. I removed the user group colors. Admins/Mods' names will no longer show up different than any other members.

I was on the fence about this feature, but I like it already. If there are new posts in Movies, Shows, Off Topic I use to click all of those with the scroll wheel to open in a new tab and then have to click all those threads with the scroll wheel to open in new tabs. Now I can do all of this from the home page without clicking into anything.

Is there a way to put the link to "home" on the bottom of the thread page? Right now it only has "Return to [current forum]" and you have to scroll to the top to get the "home" button. With this new feature it's nice to just go back home to see your remaining unread threads rather than navigating through individual forums.

How far down do you expect me to scroll?!?!?!?

Also, it's not an easier solution. It's the exact solution I asked for, I just didn't know it was already there.

1 inch past the thing you were talking about. Sorry for having that unrealistic expectation of you.
