Snitch

Postby wags83 » Sun Mar 03, 2013 11:31 pm

Saw it tonight. Another film featuring the great Dewayne Johnson (greatest actor of this or any generation). It was fairly entertaining.

Previews said it was his best performance ever. I find it hard to believe that it could top Fast 5

Likely seeing this tonight or for sure later in the week.

56% critics on RT is high enough for me. That's like quadruple the last movie we saw (Safe Haven)

Spoiler alert: The Rock never says "You just got snitched." So prepare to be disappointed.

I want to know how much of this is actually "based on true events"

And I didn't know Sean from TWD was in this!

It's inspired by an episode of Frontline titled 'Snitch'

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/snitch/

Another case profiled is that of 18- year-old Joey Settembrino, a first time offender who received a 10-year prison sentence after being caught in a drug sting instigated by a friend who was facing federal prosecution. After Joey was busted, federal agents enlisted his father to try to set up others in a drug sting. If the father delivered, his son would be spared a lengthy prison term. The effort failed. Joey is serving a mandatory 10 years without parole. In both cases, this report by producer Ofra Bikel interviews the young men in prison, and their prosecutors and defense lawyers.

(actor from the movie looks just like him)
In 1992 Joey received a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence for selling LSD. He was a first time offender and says he was set up by a government informant. (In 1994 Congress enacted a "safety-valve" permitting relief from mandatory minimums for certain non-violent, first-time drug offenders.)

So the story itself is true but the outcome in real life didn't even work.
