Oh good call! He's probably an extra. Or maybe has a speaking role!

They told menu wasn’t allowed in the picture because I was too handsome and distracted from the leads.

Top Gun 2
I really don't care to see this...unless... I see it in IMAX. I heard it is totally worth seeing in IMAX just for the experience.
Top Gun 2
I have never seen the complete original movie, so I watched that this week. I knew the major beats and have seen enough pieces of it that I didn't feel like I got anything new out of it, other than how much of a d*ck and creep Maverick is. He immediately puts a random girl on the spot at a bar by signing to her, then he follows her into the bathroom when she tried to get away from him, and he is so aggressive about everything. I didn't like any of that relationship at all. It felt very forced and happened so fast.
Granted this movie was a product of the 80's, but holy testosterone and masculinity. This is a man's man movie, to the point it almost seemed like a parody at times.
Worth repeating, I think Maverick's ego is the villain in most of this movie and Iceman is the more reasonable person.
I wish I understood more about the pilot stuff. Whenever I was supposed to be impressed by something, it looked like every other flight sequence in the movie.
I don't mean to be overly hard on this movie. There are some great visuals, anytime they are on the aircraft carrier and it's the witching hour...looks so good. I'm excited to see the new one tomorrow on IMAX.

Re: Top Gun 2
This movie was so good. Way better than the original and it retroactively makes the original better IMO.
The last 30 minutes goes a little Fast and Furious with the believability, but it leads to the best action of the movie. The set up scenario makes zero sense for the mission, but that's fine. The character beats, action, and visuals are all A+.
I find it curious that no one ever blames Iceman for Goose's death. He was being greedy in the training exercise that led to Goose's death in the first movie, but no one ever mentions that. I did like that Goose's son didn't hate Maverick for being there when his dad died, but I stead hated him because Maverick was trying to protect him and slow down his career.
Amazing movie to see in the IMAX. I never crank my sound system at home (because kids) so it was incredible to have my butt shaking the whole time during the flying and seeing the real actors on real planes on the huge screen.
Maybe my favorite movie of the year. I assume how jazzed I am about this today, is how people felt about the original in 1986.

Interesting, I've been hearing/seeing a lot of reviews saying that this is better than the original. We watched the original over the weekend in preparation of eventually seeing this.

What did you think of the original? Am I unreasonably critical of it?wags83 wrote:Interesting, I've been hearing/seeing a lot of reviews saying that this is better than the original. We watched the original over the weekend in preparation of eventually seeing this.

No I don't think so. I had seen it before but not for a few years, so it was more of a refresher. We had gone maybe 6ish years ago when they randomly had it playing in a theater up here, and I think that was the last time I watched it all the way through. It's very cheesy 80's but it's still fun. Some of the stuff though is very cringe when looked at through a 2022 lens, like you said.
