Ready Player One

Postby Blue Jackets » Wed Oct 14, 2015 6:43 am

Steven Spielberg is adapting the novel, and though it is still in the early goings, he’s already starting to cut things out, specifically references to his own movies.

The movie won’t have any of my films in it. I’m not putting myself in this movie…They reference so many ’80s movies. I’m doing the whole pop culture thing. I’m just going to leave myself out of it. I can’t do that. Too self-referential.

This doesn't make or break the movie for me, but that is because those references weren't as nostalgic for someone of my generation

In a development that puts him near the top of young actors to watch, Tye Sheridan just won the starring role in the Steven Spielberg-directed adaptation of Ready Player One, which is being made by Warner Bros, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks. He plays the protagonist Wade, opposite Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn, who plays Nolan Sorrento.

He has several upcoming films that include playing the young Cyclops in the Bryan Singer-directed X-Men: Apocalypse. So we’ll grant him a mulligan for Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse, which he starred in last fall.

That's what I recognize him from.

Mark Rylance Joins Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’
http://variety.com/2016/film/news/steve ... 201752474/
If the deal closes, Rylance will join Simon Pegg, Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn in the film based on Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel — set in the virtual universe Oasis.

For those that don't know who this is, this is the guy that stole the Oscar for best supporting role in Bridge of Spies.

Simon Pegg...did I know this?

He is playing Ogden Morrow, from what I can remember is the Oasis co-creator? Is he the guy that invites them all to his house in the end? Simon Pegg seems way too young to play that role.

'Silicon Valley' Star T.J. Miller Joins Steven Spielberg's 'Ready Player One'

Miller will play i-R0k, an annoying troller in the online forums of the game.

I started listening to this book today on my commute. I will finish it in about 3 months if I only listen on commutes.

Is it the one narrated by Will Wheaton?

Yep! his voice is weird. I don't think I like recognizing it.

How was today's 30 minutes of listening? I don't think it's worthy of any writing awards, but it was a fun entertaining read.

He just got to "school". It's interesting so far. I like how the world is in poverty. Reminds me of an episode of Dr Who

LOL the book is on sale right now and here is a comment from the slickdeals thread:

"AWESOME book, def a good read.

Audiobook version of it blows ass unfortunately unless you like listening to will wheaton lazily attempt to narrate it."

I would have to say that I do not like Wil Wheaton's voice.

Why not both? Just get a subscription to Audible and buy it on Kindle and use Whispersync

Audible sounds like such a ripoff. $15/month for one book (maybe 2?).
