20th Century Fox released "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" less than a week after they released "Avatar" as insurance due to fears that Avatar would bomb. They called it their "secret weapon".
It sounds ridiculous now but Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 made over $400 million worldwide, so calling it a "secret weapon" sounds appropriate.

I love everything about this. That they doubted the film and that Alvin is their saving grace.

Re: Avatar
I like to think the SNL video made them switch it. There were probably multiple people aware of it.

People have been saying for YEARS how they want another 4 of these movies. People just can't get enough /s
Maybe pulling a LotR where you film them all at once and then release one a year? 5 is so many though....

James Cameron: The ‘Avatar’ Sequels Have Wrapped Production
To be clear, they only wrapped AVATAR 2 and 3. They'll go back into production on 4 and 5 based on box office, per the article.
To be released December 2020 and 2021, that's a lot of post production time

They are really trying to hype these movies so far in advance but the hype just isn't sticking.

Re: RE: Avatar
I was on the GoDaddy page looking it up and figured the hassle of turning off automatic renewal wouldn't be worth it. The $10 would have been tho.wags83 wrote:Tyler wrote:Source of the postI dare you to say that to www.officialhypeforumforavatarmovieuniverse.comwags83 wrote:They are really trying to hype these movies so far in advance but the hype just isn't sticking.

‘Avatar’ Sequels Begin Filming Live-Action Sequences This Spring in New Zealand
I guess they finished filming the motion capture stuff in blue screen world? Now they are going to film with things that actually exist.
Avatar Sequels: Kate Winslet Held Her Breath for 7 Minutes
“We built a water tank that was 500,000 gallons of water, and we are doing performance-capture under the water, on the surface of the water, and above the water. We trained our cast to free-breath-hold, because in the sequences they have to just be swimming, they can’t be on scuba, and they have to be able to do long takes. So we had a gentleman named Kirk Krack come in and train everybody that needed to be underwater how to go underwater and how to hold their breath. Kate Winslet had to train in this and she got up to a static breath hold of just about seven minutes. It’s amazing, it’s mind over matter. You see Kate going underwater and she just felt so comfortable. There was one day, we have a tank where she was just rehearsing and testing and we have some windows into it, and I go in there and she’s just walking on the bottom [of the tank] left and right, left and right, left and right, then she sees me in the window and she just waves. I couldn’t believe it!”
