Jim Henson’s son to direct R-rated puppet movie with Jamie Foxx

The Happytime Murders, —an R-rated comedy noir set in a world where humans and puppets uneasily co-exist—has pulled in its first big name, with Jamie Foxx in talks to appear as one of the leads.

If he takes the role, Foxx would play LAPD Detective Edwards, a clean-cut cop forced to partner with a drunken puppet private eye in order to solve a series of murders. The film is being pitched as a gritter, less family friendly turn for The Jim Henson Company, with one of the original screenwriters saying back in 2009 that Henson had told him to include “all the puppet sex, violence, and cursing you can put in there” in his script. And while that script has since been rewritten by Red writing team Jon and Erich Hoeber, it still sounds like Henson is aiming to wrack up a pretty heavy “bodily fluid removal” cleaning bill for his debauched puppet protagonists.

Wonder what his dad would think of this.

Doesn't Disney own the Jim Henson studio in a roundabout way? They are going to green light this?

Agreed. Melissa is hit or miss with me, but this looks great. She really impressed me with Spy a few years ago

They mentioned on the radio this morning that this movie is getting sued by the Sesame Street people because they had some promotion or ad for it that says "No Sesame, All Street" or something like that.

Yeah, I heard that too. Something about Sesame Street doesn't want to be associated with this film in no way what so ever.

I wonder if they did that to create buzz around the movie. Never heard of this thing until that Sesame Street lawsuit.

The Sesame Workshop has taken their lawsuit and tossed it in Oscar’s trash can.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the “Sesame Street” creators have voluntarily dismissed their lawsuit after they previously lost their bid to secure a TRO.

If you ask me it was just a Publicity Stunt. It allows "Sesame Street" to publically disassociate themselves from the film, and gives the movie a PR boost. The "Jim Henson Company" made the puppets in this movie, and still makes puppets for Sesame Street
