Aquaman (2018)

I have only read a few comics with Black Manta in them. I don't get the character at all. Is it just a guy in a dumb looking scuba suit? Does he have powers?

There are a few origin stories for Black Manta, imagine that with a comic. I don't know how or what they will use in the upcoming movie. He is the main protagonist to Aquaman from the land dwellers. Aquaman's half brother, Orm aka Ocean Master, is his main protagonist from Atlantis. Oddly enough, Jason Momoa looks more like Orm than Arthur Curry from the comics, but hey what do I know. So, Black Manta was abducted and tortured as a child, forced to work on a ship where he first encounters Aquaman, after a failed attempt to garner Aquaman's attention for help. Black Manta went on to kill his capturers and vowed revenge against Aquaman and the ocean. Which is really weird, because in the New 52 issue zero, Black Manta is a treasure hunter set out to find Atlantis, believing Arthur Curry's father knows where it is, Black Manta accidently kills AC's father during questioning him and AC watches his father die which sparks the rivalry. Either way... Black Manta built his suit to allow him to be under water at any depths along with being able to protect himself as the eyes are able to shoot some kind of laser or beam from them. On several occassions Orm and Black Manta have teamed up together to fight Aquaman. Black Manta is basically an evil Bat Man, has no super powers but uses his ingenuity and skill to do evil.

This sounds really dumb. I am sure the movie version won't be as silly.

Thanks for explaining the origin, I knew none of that. I like the origin that he is a treasure hunter vs Aquaman being a jerk who doesn't help a slave kid.

Basically, Aquaman was swimming by and didn't see him call for help. It wasn't like he totally ignored him. But the New 52 storyline is kinda crazy. In questioning AC's father, Black Manta sparks a heart attack, which eventually kills his father. AC vows revenge. Later down the line, when AC is questioning Black Manta's father to find Black Manta, he kills his father... which sparks Black Manta to vow that he will destroy Aquaman and his whole family. Granted, Black Manta's lust for power and greed is what sparked all of it, but had AC's father not died, they wouldn't be mortal enemies.

I'm a fan of Wilson since season 2 Fargo, but I know nothing about this character so I can't comment if it's a good fit or not. Physically I don't think Wilson could stand a chance against Momoa

Yes, 100%. 49 - 37 = 22 which is juuuust out of the "tragedy" range of childbearing.

I'm surprised by both of their ages. Both seem younger. Mimosa got his break out role at a relatively older age it seems with Drogo in GoT

Dolph Lundgren Joins Jason Momoa in 'Aquaman'

Lundgren will play King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, who claims Mera as his own and wants to kill Aquaman.
