"Sicario 3" will follow "Soldado" to complete an anthology trilogy of standalone films
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 82241.html

Speaking to The Independent, the Italian filmmaker revealed: "The idea is to make three anthology movies with some of the core actors and [set] in the same world.

He backed up this notion by stating that Soldado - billed as a follow-up to 2015 cartel drama Sicario - will share only characters, and not much else.

"It's not a real sequel," he continued. "It's absolutely a standalone movie - a completely different story with just two of the characters that you met in Sicario. "The reason that I love [Soldado] is because it's not exactly a sequel; it's something you can catch and enjoy even if you haven't watched the first one."

Referring to the screenplay, penned by returning screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, he added: "The antagonists are now absolutely the main characters."

Sollima is, of course, referring to Benecio del Toro's hitman Alejandro Gillick and CIA officer Matt Graves (Josh Brolin).

He announced a trilogy before the 2nd one was even made. That's what the article is saying. Soldado is the 2nd movie

Ohhhhhhhhh, my mind read that differently than it was supposed to. I read it as the movie "Sicario 3" will follow (as in "be about") a character called "Soldado".

Soldado will see Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro “without a chaperone”

"…I had an idea, and I said [to the producers], ‘Look you can’t really do a sequel, but I sure would love to see what happened if these guys didn’t have a chaperone.’ Because basically they’re operating within the United States, so I played with some actual laws that exist and found a way that they could operate more or less legally within the U.S. But they had a chaperone. What happens if they weren’t in the U.S. and they didn’t have a chaperone? How bad or good would that work out?” he said. “You’ve seen ‘Sicario,’ good isn’t going to factor into it too much.”

This scene from Sicario is more than just a shootout. On a second viewing the cartel were pawns so that the hitman could take out the witness

This will be an opening weekend Tyler movie. I'm going to try avoiding trailers.

When I originally watched the first movie, I hated it for some reason. I watched it again on the flight to India, so I had to pay a lot more attention and loved it. I wouldn't mind seeing this in theaters.

The first one had 2-3 scenes that were just amazing and shot beautifully.

I haven't yet but maybe this weekend? Seems like maybe a "go by myself" movie since I doubt Erin would want to go.
