I'll get the official picks posted during lunch. If someone still wanted to get in before then I would allow it (unless they end up winning it all).

My bottom 3 picks won't count, but I feel those 13 will make up the top 10.
A rated R comedy usually makes the top 10, but I didn't know what to drop off to add Baywatch.

These guesses are all over the place. But I don't see any as bad.

I hope I'm right in that Cars 3 and Transformers 867 won't be in the top 10, mostly because they're dumb movies.

Transformers makes so much money though!

Not as much as Pirates though

I have a feeling Cars 3 will do better than Cars 2, maybe even Cars 1. 200 million at least I bet.

It would be interesting to see a weekly/monthly update where the ones that are in the top 10 "so far" are highlighted so we can get a feeling for where we might land.

tl;dr I'm too lazy to look up the stats myself on a regular basis.

Here, I just created this website that automatically pulls in the summer movie box office totals and sorts them into a list from greatest to smallest.

I had too much faith in PotC's track record. It had a week head start on WW and WW is already within 14 million. What was I thinking putting WW at #7?!

Summer Movie Wager 2017

Postby Tyler » Tue Jun 06, 2017 3:21 pm

I have a huge confession to make... I have been doing this wrong for the past 3 years. I've been calculating the winner the Tuesday after Labor Day based on this message on BoxOfficeMojo "Note: The Summer Season is defined as the first Friday in May through Labor Day Weekend."

I thought movies that opened at the end of August/early September just had fewer weeks to count than movies that opened earlier in the summer. I WAS WRONG! Bmojo keeps adding to their totals until the end of the movie's run.

For the most part the list I post right after Labor Day is right, since the big movies open earlier in the summer, but looking at last year's there were some small changes after I posted the results.

What mojo posted.
1 - Dory
2 - Civil War
3 - Secret Life of Pets
4 - Suicide Squad
5 - Jason Bourne
6 - Star Trek
7 - X-men
8 - Ghostbusters
9 - Central Intelligence
10 - Tarzan

What I posted:
1-5 - same
6 - X-men
7 - Star Trek
8 - Central Intelligence
9 - Ghostbusters
10 - same

I don't *think* it would have drastically changed the results, but I'm not checking it either.

TL;DR - Sorry I explained the rules poorly and will wait longer to post the results this year.

That does make more sense since it's fair and all. But it is fun trying to guess where an end of summer movie will fall with a limited time in the box office

I'm curious to see what the point standings are so far (obviously they can still shift quite a bit)

Me too, but not curious enough to crunch the numbers. It's kind of a time consuming processing and with half of the movies not out yet I don't think it's worth looking at.

I wouldn't be surprised if WW passed GotG and ruined all of our lists.

1 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - $384,262,086
2 Wonder Woman - $354,602,300
