Miyubi - first 'feature length' VR movie

Postby Tyler » Wed Aug 02, 2017 12:27 pm

Miyubi was conceived by Felix & Paul and written with the help of Funny or Die. It’s set in the 1980s and puts viewers in the body of a Japanese robot that share’s the project’s name. When a businessman buys Miyubi as a Christmas present for his son, it gives us an intimate — albeit temporary — window into a loving but troubled family.

Features Jeff Goldblum. Run time of 40 minutes.

On the Oculus Store for free, but can be played on Vive with Revive

I watched this tonight. I thought it was really cool. Things like this will be even better when the resolution is improved.

Funny Or Die made it, but I wouldn't call it very funny. It was cute, but not hilarious. Fun experience regardless and glad I spent the 40 minutes watching.

The best part of this was the 360 sound with the built in headphones on the Rift. It sounded great. You felt like you were there more because of the sound than the video.

This was obviously live action, but there was a part in the movie where you saw yourself in a TV screen and if you moved your head the robot on the screen moved. Cool little trick.

I will force Jocelyn to watch this sometime.
