Disney Streaming Service Needs 32 Million Subscribers To Break Even
To put that number in perspective, Netflix has about 50 million subscribers in the U.S., and that’s after over a decade of offering streaming services to its customers.

It’s worth pointing out though that UBS’ math is based on a potential $9 per month subscription cost for Disney streaming, and the studio has of course not yet announced how it plans to price the service. If Disney ended up going with a lower price to help gain initial subscribers, the number they would need to sign up would obviously increase considerably from 32 million, and the reverse would be true if they went higher than $9. That said, with streaming kingpin Netflix charging $9.99, it probably wouldn’t be wise for Disney to charge more.

That's a really hard sell. Even at $5 they couldn't get 32 million

Disney says its new streaming service won’t rival Netflix

Disney’s upcoming streaming service won’t try to compete directly with Netflix and Amazon, but will focus instead on quality — namely original programs from Disney’s “Star Wars,” Pixar and Marvel brands.

But Iger said that movies Disney plans to release in 2019, including “Captain Marvel,” ″Dumbo,” “Toy Story 4” and “Frozen 2,” won’t be encumbered by licensing deals and can go straight to the service soon after their theatrical releases.

Disney throwing shade at Netflix for quantity over quality. I also read that Disney isn't getting ALL Disney stuff. I think the more mature stuff is going to Hulu

Someone owns all the rights to the older star wars movies too, so they wont get those until 2024, which is hilarious.

Loki, Scarlet Witch, Other Marvel Heroes to Get Own TV Series on Disney Streaming Service
The actors who portrayed these heroes and villains in the Avengers films and their spinoffs, such as Tom Hiddelston and Elizabeth Olsen, are expected to play them in the streaming shows.

Moreover, though sources close to the production are staying mum on the cost of the programming, the budgets are expected to be hefty rivaling those of a major studio productions. Each series is expected to include six to eight episodes. Marvel Studios will produce the shows and Kevin Feige, the guru of all things MCU, is expected to take a hands-on role in their development.

Pretty huge deal that Marvel Studios is doing this and not their TV department. 6-8 episodes sounds great, I don't want more than that. Will Scarlet Witch have her accent if it is a prequel?

I assume some other channel has the airing rights until then. What if Disney put the original versions of the original trilogy up? Would that get around things?
