Coen Brothers + Netflix + western anthology = The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Postby Tyler » Thu Aug 10, 2017 7:39 am

I wouldn't consider myself a huge Coen Brothers fan, but I like most of the stuff I watch of theirs. I would check this out.

I'll give this a shot without looking at the trailer.

Updated title and moved to movies

I watched the trailer. This is something I would for sure watch at home.

So I never watched a trailer or really read any articles about this movie, just headlines about who stars in it. I started this on Saturday and it's a lot of fun but way different than I was expecting. I didn't finish it but I will.

I didn't realize the movie was going to be like that either. Knowing the Coen brothers, I'm sure they all connect in a bind blowing way.

Now I don't know if I want to see this, since it's not what I expected either. You finish it and then report back.

I liked this movie, but way too long. The first stories we're very good, but I felt it lost appeal towards the end. But that was the great part. The story you don't find interesting, just forward through. I loved the opening one with buster and the prospector one the most.

I forgot to come back and mention that I finished this. I enjoyed it overall. The stories don't end up connecting, which is ok because like Wilkins said, you can just watch the ones you like.

I think those were probably my favorites too. Buster's story was so whimsical with all the happy singing mixed in with brutal murders. I also really liked the Oregon trail one. It got so close to having a happy ending, but then...nope.

I watched the first 2 tonight after Tested podcast talked about it. Host said they for better as you watched, but I thought Buster was better than Franco. Buster was just so great because of how good he was with his gun.

Will watch the rest this week. Both were more violent than I was expecting, which is shame on me because Coen brothers.

Did not need the quadriplegic and chicken story. It was the longest one so far and felt like it dragged on too long.

That was my least favorite.

Watched prospector and Oregon trail tonight. Jocelyn: this is dumb. Continues to watch all of the prospector. Oregon trail took such a sudden dark turn.

It's kind of amazing how these are only 15-30 minutes but feel like hours because of how slow they all are. It's going to take me 4 sittings to finish them.

Started the last segment last night. Got 5 minutes in and decided I didn't care what was going on. Calling the movie watched.

It's just a very long movie to begin with.

I watched it over 4 sittings. Can't imagine watching it all at once since nothing is connected.
