MoviePass - $9.95/month for unlimited theater movies

Postby Tyler » Tue Jan 09, 2018 3:54 pm

This should have been on my favorite things of 2017 list. I love this service and will miss it when it closes or jacks up prices this year.

We can only hope they start selling the hell out of our personal information so that they can be profitable enough to keep prices down.

MoviePass has withdrawn its subscription service from several high-traffic AMC theaters without revealing the reason why.

Here are standard Friday night 2D prices for a few of the theaters removed. We can assume that's why

Universal City Walk - $19.75
Empire - $16.29
Boston Common - $14.19
Alderwood Mall - $12.99
River East - $12.19

Ah snap. Good thing I live in a small enough city that I don't experience pricing like that.

The AMC I go to is still on there. The ticket prices there are $12.89 on Friday nights.

I don't usually go to AMC anyway.

I also have not used my moviepass enough this month. Need to see a few movies this weekend.

We usually go to AMC Coon Rapids or Emagine Rogers. Emagine Rogers always has way more seats available and is only a little bit further but I don't like the seats as much (they are the same as Willow Creek).

Every time I got to the Emagine theaters, the person comments on MoviePass and asks how I am liking it.

You don't like having a bright blue light shining on you during the movie?

Not particularly. AMC's seats are also in pairs so you have a little more room between you and the stranger dangers.

Feddersen said he lost access to one Boston theater so far.

No employee has commented on my card, but I've never had to hand it over either. I swipe it myself.

I did my normal routine yesterday. 1 ticket please, pick 1 seat, pay with moviepass. 1 more ticket please, pick 1 seat, pay with other card. Afterwards the box office lady said they figured out on their system to do 1 transaction with 2 seats and 2 payment methods. She said next time to just say I'm using moviepass and she can allow me to pick both seats at once.

The theater we go to lets you do a split payment so you can just buy both tickets and pick seats at the same time and then pay with 2 movie pass cards.

That must be what they are talking about. Do you tell them ahead of time or its just an option on the card reader you select?

Always an option within point of sale not card terminal.

I just say that we're paying separately. I always see other people paying with MoviePass so I assume they're pretty used to it. Or maybe they just think we are constantly going Dutch for our movie dates.

I think MoviePass is allowing everyone to see more movies and even see movies without our partners. What's your criteria for seeing a movie alone? Mine:
1) has to be something that partner doesn't want to see
2) during a time where the whole family is preoccupied (Jocelyn working, Evie at normal hour daycare).

People who don't work half day Fridays, do you sometimes go to a movie and your partner just stays home?

I guess I kinda have the same criteria. If Erin doesn't want to see a movie and she has something else going on, I'll just go by myself. Last week we were going to go to Game Night but then she was too tired so I went to Annihilation by myself and we saw Game Night a few days later.

Wow. She's lame. Is she pregnant or something?

Often.

Prime Tim movie time is in the morning on the weekends.
