Actually looks like it could be good. More sympathetic to the Joker which will be an interesting take. I assume the Jared Leto one will be terrible.

I haven't enjoyed anything Leto has been in for a long time now.

Zazie Beetz and Brian Tyree Henry. Atlanta reunion.

This does look interesting. I am curious if it will even mention Batman.

Agree with everyone. Keep the Leto version from happening.

I was talking with a few people in a discord chat today. My ideal Joker origin story would be Joker in Arkham Asylum talking with an unseen doctor describing each back story during a series of psych evaluation sessions. Each session would involve flashbacks of the Joker's various backstories played by a different actor in each one. Think Heath Ledger's character in the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus mixed with a variety of origin stories from the comics, movies, or tv shows. Final scene "I'll see you tomorrow, Dr. Quinzel or may I call you Harley?" Now we are set up for a Harley Quinn origin movie.

One word to summarize this entire movie: Uncomfortable.

This movie is designed to make you feel uncomfortable, and it does a very fine job of that. Phoenix's performance is super strong. I especially like how he has 2 laughs in the movie - the one he uses when he thinks he should be laughing vs the one he does when he can't help but laugh due to his condition.

I think there are three lenses to watch this movie through:
1) It's an interesting and realistic origins story for a Batman villain. That's it.
2) Our country has failed the mentally ill and Joker is just as much a victim as he is the bad guy.
3) F society. Joker is awesome and our idol now and we must burn this mother down

Some media was making it out like option 3 was the only one happening and this was the most dangerous movie to see ever. I even saw some headlines about theaters not selling single tickets to opening night. I have no doubt that some people probably idolize Joker because he was able to fight back and start a movement against a society that made him like this, but I really hope that is the small small minority of movie goers. In fact, Joker didn't even start the uprising on purpose. He had a mental break and killed 3 people, they just happened to be wealthy wallstreet types.

I fall between 1 and 2. The movie does put a spot light on mental health awareness and how the country mostly ignores it. This movie takes place in decades earlier than today, but nothing has improved since then. If Joker got proper care and had the same resources that Tomas Wayne had, it's likely there would be no Joker at all.

More I liked:
-Thomas Wayne being a dick. He is so rich that he can't relate to people like Arthur
-Arthur being a badass to the cops and then walking into the glass door.
-The dwarf unable to open the door with Arthur's help - that was very intense
-Anytime Arthur ran

Meh:
-Tomas and Martha being killed once again. The difference with this is that the shooter grabbed for the pearls as a "f you and your wealth" instead of trying to rob her
-Joker's speech on the talk show. He's a doofus throughout the movie but he can somehow piece together that speech? This fell into the idolizing category for me

Question:
How was Arthur ever allowed back in his mother's care about she kept him chain to a radiator and abused by men?
Thomas Wayne signed that back of her letter, is there truth to her story after all?

I took this as a medication thing. IT was wearing off so he was more coherent, but unstable.

It also doesn't make sense that Joker is like 40 years older than Bruce. So when they fight later, hes like 75.

Right. I think Joker is always portrayed as older than Batman, but not by THAT much.
