ya it's lower because they switched the pipe line that goes to iowa from unleaded to super unleaded. it was $2.99 in sheldon for a day, but at 3.09 right now, which is still 20 cents cheaper then 2 weeks ago

They're shipping lower grade fuel. So theyre blending regular with premium that's why its so much more expensive. Your ethanol has been reduced to 87 octane that's why that's cheaper.

Ah. Thanks Danny. That makes sense. I took a picture a week ago and sent it to Corey they 87 was 2 different prices and one of the '87' was a sticker so I was even more confused.

sorry not posting
Johnston, Iowa — Starting in September, you may see some prices at the pump that will surprise you. Or you may see some new choices.

According to the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, the price of 87 octane pure gasoline is going to spike. They say the reason is the pipeline companies that serve Iowa have made a financial decision to stop piping 87 octane pure gas in their pipelines. They will instead pipe a product that has to be blended to be legal for sale in Iowa. The 84 octane fuel will need to be blended with ethanol or 91 octane premium gas to reach the 87 octane low limit. They say that mixing it with premium gas will make it much more expensive — on the order of a quarter to 50 cents more per gallon than it is now — wholesale price. It’s the first major shift in fuels since leaded gas was banned 30 years ago.

Lucy Norton, managing director for the Renewable Fuels Association says their analysis shows the shift in the fuels will likely increase the cost of non-ethanol blended gasoline forcing retailers to choose between offering a relatively high-priced traditional 87 octane 100 percent gasoline and a lower-cost blend of 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline. She says while the difference between 10 percent ethanol gas and 100 percent gasoline is now about 10 cents a gallon, it will probably soon be much more than that.

The study, commissioned by the association, was conducted by Decision Innovation Solutions of Urbandale.

Norton says the Midwest is one of the last holdouts where you can get pure gas without ethanol. In other parts of the country, the shift has already occurred, and the default fuel of choice in those markets is the 10 percent ethanol blend, called E10. She says they think that will happen here too. She says in September retailers will have to decide what to put in their second tank.

Last I paid was 1.72. South Carolina supposedly has some of the lowest prices in the country.
