Anyone going to get one of the new cheaper Echos?
I am interested, but can't talk myself into it. I think if I had an open floor plan I would be more inclined to get it. I would want one in the kitchen and in the living room, but the living room is in the basement now.

How much are the new ones? I'm not sure what the benefits of having one are.

$130 or $90
$130 one is battery powered (I think) and you need to tap the button for Alexa
$90 is always on, but needs to be paired with a speaker

Only needs to be paired to listen to music. Alexa will come through the built in speaker

Amazon tweeted the new price of the Dot and quickly deleted it. It is going to be $50, $40 cheaper than the current one. That is crazy! I want 3. How horrible is the speaker on the Dot?

It's real!

This is really compelling. No way Google Home can get down to $50, or even $99

Update: I preordered it. Comes October 20th. I can cancel if Google announces anything before then.

Update2: Corey, this has as speaker, but why does it say I should pair it with a blutooth speaker? Is it just because the sound quality is horrible on this and not intended for music?

Would anyone else be interesting in this? Buy 5 get 1 free. That is about $42/piece if we want to do a group order.

I want to, but I can't have any new toys at the moment.

Does your landlord not allow Amazon products in the house?

Someone at work was complaining about slow internet so I gave him my old modem and now his speeds are 700% faster. In return he brought me an Echo Dot that was gifted to him that he doesn't want. Looks like I am going to have both devices in the house now. Will probably leave the Google Home in the kitchen and put the Dot near the TV in the basement.

I think Alexa can control Plex now, but not sure if Roku is a supported device.

The Dot? No, haven't opened it :P

Google Home, yes. Mostly just for music, adding things to shopping lists, asking random cooking question.
