New phone and phone news

Note 4 on VZW finally got Marshmallow. It wasn't even on my radar that I would be getting it, whereas I use to check all the time for Lollipop. Biggest change so far is that I have WiFi calling now. Perfect timing too, I work in a dungeon with no cell connection to a tower. Other than Samsung apps changing their icons, I notice no other changes.

Weighing my options out loud here.
I have the Note 5 on Verizon. I am eligible for a new phone on Black Friday.
Note 7 is probably the best phone out right now. Pixel didn't live up to the hype at all.
Galaxy S8 is expected to release early 2017, but I read today they are also removing the headphone jack.

Jocelyn is iPhone 6. She will also be eligible next month. I don't think she wants the iPhone 7, but isn't crazy about Android either.

I guess I will factory refresh my phone and hope it feels more responsive after that. I have been having some problems with receiving pictures for the past few months and that is really what makes me want a new phone.

I was looking at the moto z play. Only SD 625 processor and 1080p but amazing battery, good ram, and moto does almost no skin on android. I really want long term updates and bug fixes which I know Motorola won't do, which is my only downside.

I'll wait and see what promos come out. I don't want to spend much over $400/phone.

I was looking at the Pixel on Verizon and still got an option to do a 2yr contract bringing the phone down to $299. Of course I would have to give up my unlimited data....I was just window shopping.

Verizon trade in deals would give Sarah and I each $200 off pixel which pits it in my acceptable price range. Sarah's phone has been crashing often enough to make me nervous.

I want something with WiFi calling since my signal at work sucks.

Must be because you are on an old plan, I do not have this option. Full price or monthly installments.

$200 off the $770 price? Financing after that wouldn't be bad.
My Note 5 is only worth $105

I have the note 7 and will be getting iPhone 7 hopefully plus for my work phone soon. I think besides the explosion factor and the crap I had to deal with because of the recall the note 7 is solid

No it's worth $300 if you look at the device payment promos for Note 5.

The only downside that has recently changed is the trade in is a 24month credit so if I want to pay off early I don't get the rest of the credits for trade.

My original plan was to take advantage of trade in then pay phone off the next month but that won't work here.

My bad. I meant to say Note 4, not 5.

Sounds like the best option for all of us would be to sell the phone privately (ebay, CL) and use that money towards a phone. Can you treat that as a down payment and then the 24month premiums are adjusted off of that?

Yeah, I liked at eBay for both our phones for same reason and it was like $100.

EBay pisses me off now with their new fee structure.

Besides come black Friday there will be some great trade in deals depending on what phone you want.

Evie put a couple of cracks in Jocelyn's iPhone 6 last night. I think I can repair it. She is eligible for an upgrade at this time anyways.

We might go phone shopping this weekend. She doesn't want the iPhone 7, but 6s isn't very exciting. I think Pixel phones are out on Thursday? Maybe we will go look at those.

I think I will fix the phone after she gets a new one (just in case I mess it up) and then sell that on eBay.

It's a shame none of these good low/mid price phones work on Verizon

I wonder if the December rumors were false about dropping the headphone jack or if Samsung reacted to the backlash.

Computer dock has yet to be a compelling feature. Microsoft continuum was probably the closest if only the Windows Mobile ecosystem was worth while.

I just looked up Continuum, that is fancy.

It's a neat idea, but not something I would use at home. Maybe some works would?
