Taxes

Postby Tyler » Fri Jan 30, 2015 9:54 am

Who does their own and what do you use? I've used TaxAct the past 2 years, but I might give TurboTax a try just to compare the two.

For those that don't do their own, who do you go to?

This is the 4th year that I've used TaxAct. I used to have it done by Murphy when I was in Sheldon.

My mom does mine at Engelsman. They are cutting back on clients though so if they aren't already doing yours they probably won't. Mine got e-filed today and I should get my refunds in the next few weeks.

my parents use some tax program. It has been turbotax in the past and i think they double check with taxact. then go with whichever provides the highest refund.

I'm still waiting on a w2 and my 1099misc form to file this year. I used turbo tax last year but I think they changed the pricing and I would have to pay $80 to file since I have the 1099misc form.

I might use hr block or taxact.

I compared them both this year. Turbo got a little bit more back for state, but the cost of them might offset that, gotta crunch the numbers.

I also owe for the first time ever :(

I guess I've never compared the do it yourself ones. But tax act is so cheap, especially compared to HR Block who I used a few years back.

Tyler- I used TurboTax but that blake guy from vspot got screwed, someone scammed his stuff and had a huge deduction headed to California. hopefully he gets it all sorted out..

As for us Turbo Tax was good, but my cousin wants to do ours for free and shes been doin it for awhile. (Turbo tax is free regardless for us since federal is free and we dont have state)

Jathko- 11k back? tell her to change her witholdings/money held back... 11k means you're holding way too much of a check and giving the government a free loan for a few months. Put it in an IRA/CD, something that will bring returns! Or just by video games and cookies!

No. It's not she doesn't get much taken out. It's childcare, earned income tax...

Turbo Tax
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2015/02/06/turbotax-state-filings-halted/22979519/

Blake was apart of this I believe... Having my cuz do my Taxes FTW, not that it matters as state filings have no effect in Texas.

Still interesting to see
