Organizing the garage

Postby Tyler » Mon Jun 15, 2015 9:43 am

Our garage is a mess. I got some overhead storage units and started hanging them over the weekend. Took about 2.5 hours to do one. With the lessons learned I should be able to do the 2nd one today in half the time (I hope).

One up. They are 4x8 and very heavy duty.

Sure did. It's pretty modular, but it was still a huge PITA. Impossible to stand on a ladder and measure 96" across the ceiling without have the tape snap down before you can draw a line. I learned some tricks hanging the first one and the second one should be much easier *knock on wood*

Second one was hung in less than an hour. The ceiling joists didn't line up correctly so I had to improvise a bracket with spare parts to stretch the 24" opening.

Next up is hanging bikes. Maybe by this weekend I can post an "after" picture

Correct. Got bikes hung today. Will finish organizing next Monday when recycling comes and takes all of my broken down boxes

I've actually thought about that. A business where you get like a garage makeover. I was disappointed to find a Des Moines company does that already

Nope. That's why I crushed that business idea already.

We went on a site visit to a client who lives on the golf course downtown yesterday and Absolute Garage was there doing their garage. They were doing the floor at the time. Looked pretty sweet! They are also getting an entire shelving system. Must be nice to not have to worry about money!

No kidding. Those garages look amazing but you're going to spend as much on the storage as you would kitchen cabinetry

Yeah. These particular people's house was built new 2-3 years ago and the ripped out their entire kitchen and fireplace and remodeled it and are now doing their master bath+ garage. So ridiculous. They must really love the location otherwise I'm wondering why they wouldn't just build new they way they want it in the first place. Most projects we do are houses that are 20+ years old.
