Corey just came back from a Microsoft convention so he is fully drinking the kool-aid, but seriously, I have had Windows 10 since day 1 (same with the Anniversary update) and I have no problems with it. I think it is a nice improvement over Windows 8 and if you are coming from Windows 7 it isn't a huge change.

Werd its never been an issue for me

That right there is what worries me the most, is a broken update that makes my computer unusable. And what if the problem only happens for me, or only very specific configurations? I doubt Microsoft would care enough to fix it. There's no way for you to try and prevent or avoid these kinds of problems when every update is forced on you.

Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are moving to the same cumulative update system (you either get all the updates or none of the updates) so you won't be gaining anything by not upgrading

I agree with Corey. You can build a PC and put an older version of Windows on it if you want, but in the end it isn't going to matter. Most of us on this forum have custom built PCs and the only issue experienced by any of us was when I swapped out my motherboard and I couldn't get my free copy of Windows 10 to transfer.

I have noticed my CPU gets extremely hot at times, I'm not sure if my liquid cooler pump is going out or what.

Deal is back. Highly recommend

I feel like tonight was the true test of this cooler. I'm over clocking my CPU and it ran at 100% for 3 hrs during gaming and video transcoding. The temps never crossed 70 C. My old CPU cooler was having my CPU idle at 60 C and I would see 85+ during heavy usage.

I am getting my 2nd Dell Optiplex this weekend for my grandpa. Should blow his Walmart emachine out of the water. I got him a 120gb SSD and I can't believe how light it is. I got a 60gb one a few years ago and it feels 4x heavier and denser. I really want to open it up (but I won't) because it feels like an empty plastic shell with nothing more than an SD card in it.

Anyways....I'm super happy with my $50 5 year old computer from a Texas Goodwill. Once I figured out why it was randomly stopping Plex (durrr, I forgot to turn off the sleep timer) it has been super reliable and fast. It only has 4gb of RAM, but it doesn't feel sluggish at all. I might put more RAM in my grandpa's if the eMachine's extra RAM that I got is compatible

Replaced my grandpa's computer over the weekend. Here is what his Walmart emachine looked like.
Notice the quarter for scale on the CPU cooler

The "passmark" score of this was 600. His new PC is 6k and has an SSD. It is insanely fast compared to what he had.

Didn't install Linux today on my media "server", but I added a 2nd network card and literally cut out the old hard drive rack and added a new one. My main PC had a removeable rack that I wasn't using in it so I modified it to work in the media box. My 3TB drives didn't fit properly in the blue plastic things so this works a lot better.

AFTER. Yes. That is a piece of wood I cut to help it fit snug.

The slight cockeyed look of your fan makes my eye twitch, though I know it's fine and okay and supposed to be like that.

Haha right, nothing I can do about it without replacing the stock cooler.

Crckrjack and I bought video cards we don't need just because they were on sale. GTX 980ti for $199. I may list my used GTX 970 and unopened GTX 980ti on ebay at the same time and decide what to do with them at the end of the auction.

I think Crckrjack bought the 980ti with the intent to use it.

980, not 1080

I am definitely going to use mine. I have been wanting to upgrade to the 1080 but really didn't want to shell out $600. the 980ti is on par with the 1070 so super happy spending 200 for that.

I am going to keep my current card (970) on hand just in case kathryn wants to build a pc or just as backup.

I listed my used GTX 970 for 24 hours on eBay. It ended up selling for the same price I bought the GTX 980ti for. I got a free upgrade!
Will be installed and running 3Dmark on it tonight.

I also did some work on my media server over the weekend. I had to add a hard drive power extension cable because I ran out of ports. I'm also out of SATA mobo ports now.

124gb SSD, 4TB 5400rpm drive, 2x3TB 7200rpm drive. Not picture: 8TB external backup drive.
