Favorite Mobile Apps

Postby Tyler » Tue Jan 05, 2016 9:43 am

Are there any apps you use and think others should as well?

Twilight - https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .lux&hl=en
Pretty simple app, it just adds a red hue to your screen when the sun goes down. Less strain on your eyes. Science says looking at your screen before bed is the worst thing you can do for sleep, this makes that a little less harmful. I really like it when I wake up at 2am for Evie and quick check CPT and I'm not blinded by my screen.

AutoMate - https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... e.automate
I don't actually use this, but will probably get it.
AutoMate makes common services available to you from your device while you're driving. With AutoMate, you get the right information at the right time, so you can focus on the road.

Tapatalk of course...

I use an unsupported Reddit Pic app that you have to install via the APK. What does other people use?

Recently starting using the Ebates app.

Target Cartwheel: use the app to find savings then scan the bar code when checking out. Even lets you scan objects in the store to see if there's a coupon you missed.

Also really like the Iowa DOT app while traveling. Keeps me up to date on road conditions during winter months and helps me navigate around construction the rest of the year. I'm sure there are other apps that do these things too, but I never bothered to look into anything else.

I'll check out ebates. Jocelyn has the cartwheel app I am sure sure she has the Red card.

Never knew Iowa DOT had an app. I always used 511ia.org, which is not a pleasant experience on mobile.

Ebates is nice if you shop online and has an add-on for chrome so you won't miss the cash back while buying

Do people use Google Maps or Waze? I might switch to Waze since Iowa DOT pulls in reports from that. Does that work with Google Now voice though?

Good call on Google Rewards. I always have more money than I know what to do with. Got a lot of Google Cardboard apps with it.

Cwilkins also found out today you can pay for yearly LastPass with it

I use Google Maps mostly but will turn on Waze when I hit traffic as it is much more aggressive at taking you down side streets to avoid traffic vs. Google Maps only routing you to other major roads typically.

Other than the ones mentioned I use Untapped and Map My Ride often enough. I use the Yelp app quite a bit too.

I'm still using Reddit Pics HD but should change that as it is kinda shitty now. I don't browse Reddit as much anymore though.

Reddit - Sync Pro
Weather - Weather Timeline
Podcasts - Pocket Casts
2 factor authentication - Authy
Sports - TheScore
Feed aggregator - Feedly
Multitasking - Flynx browser

There's probably more but I can't think of them at the moment

That reminds me that I do use the ESPN app quite a bit but that's mostly just to get scores of games I can't watch.

If you're on Android, you should check out theScore. Way better app design IMO.

Well, Google authenticator went something like 2 or 3 years without an update (it was recently updated though , which is nice).

Also, Authy lets you do 2 factor for sites other than Google.

Google photos. Free unlimited automatic photo backup. So many cool features. I have the same account signed into my phone (Android) and Jocelyn's (iPhone) so all of our photos are shared. Very nice to just open the app and see all the baby pictures Jocelyn takes.

Photos also does a great job tagging your pictures based on metadata or just what's in the picture. If I search "dog" I'll get pictures of Roscoe. It also create s gifs and other neat effects.

Lastly, they have a desktop tool to upload all of your pictures saved there. And the app can delete pictures on your phone local storage once they are backed up to the cloud

I love one drive and copy. Use on my phone for on the go work files and copy for books. Sunrise is a nice calendar that syncs gmail with work calendars without 'importing'
