The time HussBuss almost died - not safe for lunch

Postby Tyler » Mon Jan 25, 2016 3:50 pm

He was stepping backwards and ended up on the basement floor. I think he messed the steps entirely and fell under the landing. He told me about it a few weeks ago but I was at the house over the weekend so i took a picture. Kyle, did your life flash before your eyes when you stepped backwards and started free falling?

If you look carefully you can see where the track is bent.

I was working on nailing down the base trim in the area. So I went over the side when I was going down and backwards at the same time, and I just came up from the basement.

You are correct I really didn't touch any steps, maybe the very side. I never thought I was going to die. Just when I started to go over, I was like well this isn't good.

I was trying to grab anything I could, but there was only a metal edge and that wasn't enough. I believe that is how my left hand got cut, since that hand was the last to go. So that hand going last really just made me fall 3' down, which it still felt like a long time. I don't know how my leg got cut, but it could be from the side of the steps or from the dog cage my legs hit. I landed on my but and my head didn't touch anything.

I was just really lucky and fortunate nothing was there where I landed, and I didn't hit my head on anything. If I was wearing pants, I probably wouldn't have gotten that bad of a cut on my leg. Good thing it just wasn't anyone else.

You don't think your shin caught the edge of the landing on your way down?

That looks like the most painful scrape ever.

Glad you're alright! Makes me lol when I imagine you saying/thinking "this isn't good" to yourself as you fall. Wouldn't be funny had you been seriously hurt. Although that looks brutal, hope you heal up fast. Better Use some triple antibiotic on that too!!

I bet it was your giant balls trying to grab hold on the way down that bent the metal bracket.

guys i got another cut this weekend. i feel off of a lift platform about 12' in the air. I was helping with tinning a garage roof. I landed on my feet in the grass, but I had a cordless impact driver in my hand and it hit the ground and bounced back up and cut my head. So I had to go to the hospital to get it glued, and checked out.

I was fortunate again, it could have been a lot worse.

I didn't realize the drill bounced back up and got you, I assumed it hit you while in the air.

You should have been tethered to the platform!
