I cringe seeing TVs above fireplaces

Yeah I feel like ours are pretty close to optimal. I also love having no entertainment shelf or anything, at least in living room where we don't have gaming consoles there's no need.ejhartman91 wrote:YES! This is the reason I asked. The electrical contractor had placed the outlet for the TV really high on the wall, and I today told him I wanted it lower. Thanks bmyoungs for measuring! I was planning to be around 50" or more from floor to center, depending on how big of a TV I end up with.

our new setup for the basement. Vizio quantum 65" with a Bose 500 soundbar/subwoofer. And a baby in the way of the photo

I think we are going with a 75" TV. It's between the Vizio P-Series Quantum X or the Sony X900H. Maybe whichever one goes on sale first. I came up with a design for our built-in look. Talked it over with the contractor that is finishing our basement and they are going to do it for us. Here's a rough sketch:

Nice, I liked the Vizio as well it just doesn't come in a 55". Some of the new TVs announced at CES after pretty exciting. It certainly feels like we are starting to see some of the standard computer monitor features come into the mid range TVs.ejhartman91 wrote:I think we are going with a 75" TV. Nice sketch Ethan. That will look nice.
Built-ins look so nice and professional, but there is less need for them with streaming media. I dont own DVDs or players. I guess I have a media center closet, if it wasn't for that I would need built-ins for all my other equipment.

Yeah I told the wife we don't need that but she wants to have the storage for other stuff, and the shelves on the sides to decorate. I will only have game consoles but those will go on the open exposed shelves in the middle.

Quantum X on sale right now
I'm considering it even though 65" is too big for my space I can make it work.

Update: got the final plan for the built in. This design shows a 65" TV which the wife is ok with now. So I may look into an OLED set now since 65" OLED models are within my budget

Also - that TV is mounted way too high. Ours will be lower.

That looks great!
I agree the TV should be lower, but then will look weird with uneven space below/above the screen?

Hmm, hadn't thought about it that way. I'll probably use the Best Buy/Amazon AR feature to check it out before I do any mounting. I honestly was thinking about not even mounting it and just setting it on top of the shelf at first

What will your ambient RGB/sound bar situation be.

Probably going with a soundbar...I'm not super picky when it comes to home theater audio. As long as it's better than the TV speakers I'm good. I saw there's a Vizio 5.1 setup with Dolby Atmos support I can buy with the Vizio 65" OLED for around $2K total...might spring for that.

Went rogue a bit and ordered a samsung q80t. It was on my radar as one of the best options. I was close to going OLED but a couple hundred less and no risk of burn in was the decider. Also getting it before the superbowl was key

Might be pulling the trigger on this guy soon. Checked some measurements and I believe the 75" will still fit our entertainment center. I did look at OLED but the idea of burn-in risk alone scares me...especially considering the price. I don't want to have to worry about my screen having issues just because of the way I use it.
