I like it this way, thats how it was when i went to school. In Sioux falls none of the pools open till memorial weekend and it usually isn't warm until then so it's nice they got out about then and then don't have to be back till after labor day. The city voted on this 2 years ago and I think they have to vote on it again this year to see if they want to keep it this way or go back to the old dates.

That seems early to get out of school, like the same as jocelyn and they started this week. Maybe they get more breaks than you? Do you have a sprint break? Sheldon never did but schools here do for a week

I believe it's a law in MN that schools can't start until after Labor Day.

Reese was donated a special scooter for Christmas. Marilyn shared this on Facebook and everyone should watch. Charities like this are so great.

Hey Jayson, how is everything going this summer? I've seen Reese is making progress with her sign language. Are you and the family learning it as well? I think I saw she attended a camp, was that local?

When was the hearing loss first noticed? Does she have any hearing remaining? Is the loss stable now or will it continue to degrade?

Sorry for bombarding you with questions!

We have had a great summer, been super busy. We have know of her hearing loss since her chemo and radiation. Right now it is just certain frequencies that she struggles with but they expect it to keep getting worse over time. She has had hearing aids for a couple years now and they help her quite a bit. We are in Memphis now and since she will be starting kindergarten they are updating her hearing aids with some really cool features. They will have FM receivers in each one and her teacher will need to wear a FM transmitter around her neck so Reese will be able to hear her teacher or whoever has the transmitter. They will also have another device that allows her hearing aids to be Bluetooth so she won't need headphones to listen to her tablet anymore the sound will all go through her hearing aids. The device will also have audio inputs so they can hook it up to the computers at the school. I never realised the technology they have for hearing aids until today. The camp she went to was through the south dakota school for the deaf. She has learned a lot already. We have learned a little bit also but not as much as her. Right now we are waiting for clearance so Reese can get her MRI.

Wow. I had no idea either that hearing aid technology has advanced like that. When I think of hearing aids I just picture the ones my grandparents had 15 years ago and how cumbersome they were. That's cool that it will allow her to participate in school still.

We have had kids in our district that have aids with the FM transmitter/receiver technology. It becomes part of the teacher's routine very easily... and it is so awesome how accessible it makes all of the learning for a kiddo with hearing loss! The video of her signing what she wants to be when she grows up was so sweet. :)

That's great to hear Jocelyn. We were a little worried about if it is a pain for teachers or not. Reese always tells us she wants to be a teacher but then she signed a nurse. Marilyn said it was funny when Reese said no she wants to be a teacher.
