That's such a good deal. We weren't able to talk our price down this year as the intro rate for new customers is more than we are paying. $45 for 30/5 no cap at least.

Through VPN

I turned off the VPN and was expecting double the results but it was basically the same. Maybe it's not fully kicked in yet. I'll reboot modem/router tonight and try again.

Last night I was getting 124/35. Not the 200mb that I am suppose to, but I don't think I care? What is the point of diminishing return for internet speed? Going from 100 to 200 isn't going to make Netflix better, it likely won't make any downloads faster since I'll be limited by the host's upload speed. I mostly wanted the double data cap for $5 more.

However...I have the need, the need for speed. My SB6141 modem should be good for 300mb+.

Dang. Not bad at all then! You have the 400gb cap plan, right? I think that's 60 down?

Does this router work with Mediacom?

Why should I change my current router from that to this?

I am using it with Mediacom. My old router had sucky coverage and needed to be rebooted weekly for various issues. This router has great range and is very stable. No need for rebooting.

If you are happy with your router than no need to go out and spend $60. But if you have some weak signals in your house this will probably fix that (assuming house size and your current router is weak).

We occasionally have some issues getting better service. When the router was in the living room, it would be spotty in the bedroom. But when I threaded the router through the wall and into the laundry room so I could get wifi in the spare bedroom when I had my gaming desktop hooked up there, sometimes the game consoles (xbox 360 in particular) would have some issues. My house is a 1 floor and only 1000 sq ft. But this is also the same router that I've had for.... 4 years?

Might be worth an upgrade then. Is your current router dual band (2.4ghz and 5) and does it have multiple external antennas?

No idea, and nope. It's just a cute little guy sitting there in my laundry room with no antennas at all.

US Midwest for me on VPN server
Image

Fast.com has it at 90 Mbps

Google's says 70/30

No VPN (on main computer, not server where PIA is)

Glad to see VPN doesn't hurt upload, but my speeds where nowhere near this when I did VPN on router.

Router's CPUs typically arent strong enough to handle the VPN encryption and that is why the speeds drop.In this thread people say you can run router software on the PC and then use router after traffic is passed through that. You need to add a second network adapter though

Sleepy and Dom, have you gotten your router? Noticable improvement?
