Corey, a lot of us saw pics on Facebook. What exactly was the conference and why were you there? Would you rank it as high as your honeymoon for best trips in your life? It seems like you had a lot of fun there.

It was a great conference!

It is Microsoft's yearly gathering of everything IT basically. There were 25,000 attendees in Atlanta and over 1,400 session options to attend over the course of the week. I went early on Sunday as well and got to do an all-day pre-conference training with a couple Microsoft MVPs that I've run into a lot over the course of my career. Basically anything I ever google about Windows deployments/SCCM ends up with a link at one of their blogs so it was very cool to learn from them in person.

The rest of the week was 20-75 minute sessions on anything you can think of from Microsoft. Office 365/Exchange, Server 2016, Windows 10 deployments/provisioning/management, mobile device management, .NET development, etc. The conference was loaded heavily toward Microsoft's cloud offerings and Windows 10 which is the type of stuff that I am very interested in. It is a great opportunity to look outside your organization to see how others are doing things and hear from Microsoft about what is available and how to implement it. I feel like I gained a year of experience just sitting in these sessions for a week so it is definitely something I will be pushing to go to every year.

Also, there was free pop/snacks everywhere which was awesome. The actual lunch sucked though.

There is also an Expo hall that has hundreds of IT company booths and lots of swag. I'll have to get my swag together and take a picture when I get back. There is also an area for every single Microsoft technology with folks from the product teams at all of the booths. This was great to get answers to questions straight from the horse's mouth and was great to pick their brains on some things and offer suggestions.

After the sessions each day, there are typically several parties. Each night from 5-7pm there was free beer/wine in the expo hall so we just did that on Monday night. Tuesday we went to a natural history museum for a party for Microsoft Certified Professionals. That was a neat party since there was lots of giant dinosaurs everywhere. They had a live band, free food/drinks, and casino games. They gave away a free trip to Microsoft Ignite in Australia too.

Wednesday we went to a party by a company called Metalogix. They closed down a block of a street and had live bands on a big stage and lots of drinking games and arcade games. There were 5 restaurants on that street that had buffet style food inside and of course the drinks were flowing as well.

Thursday was the big Microsoft sponsored event that was in Centennial Olympic Park. There was pretty much any type of entertainment you could ask for. Live DJ, live bands (on two large stages), giant turkey legs, other food, free booze, an arcade, pool tables, etc. These wristbands were available for spouses that came with for $150 so it was a pretty legit party.

In closing, ask your bosses to spend the $3,000 to allow you to go next year if you have any interest in it. We had two of us go from my company. I was lucky as the second person who was going to go just got a job at Microsoft so I got to take his place.

So you really did have the time of your life. $3,000 doesn't sound *that* expensive. Does that include the hotel? I imagine it doesn't include airfare. I assume you didn't have to pay anything out of pocket, but were all the meals/parties fully catered or did you have to expense them?

2 observations
1) You are a giant nerd, but it makes me happy you had fun listening to your favorite bloggers present.
2) This is your longest post ever made to CPT, by far.

The $3,000 was just for the conference. Tack on another $700 in hotels and $650 in airfare. We expensed a couple meals and Uber rides too. All the parties were free.

So many questions!

Where are the girls?
What was the name of the golf place? We tried doing that in Chicago and it was a 5 hour wait
What's up with the CNN lawn chairs?
Who is the selfie guy?
Did you wear that backpack all weekend?

There were some girls but not a lot at an IT conference.

Top Golf

They were just lawn chairs outside the convention center
CNN headquarters is across the street.

If we took a selfie and tweeted at a hashtag we were entered into a drawing for a computer. We also got a LumanAid.

I wore the backpack that I got from Microsoft all week and most nights as our hotel was a 30 minute shuttle away.

Bump. Going again next week in Orlando. Leaving this Saturday and coming back Friday. Party this year on Thursday is at Universal Studios and they rented out both the parks.
