I think it was mentioned in the mobile app thread, but Facebook shouldn't be on your phone. Here's a Reddit post with a lot of information

I notice ads that have to do with things I've searched for or looked at on other sites, but I notice that on other sites as well. I've never noticed anything regarding it "listening" to me while I'm offline.

Yeah, that is common practice because of web cookies. The other stuff is spooky!

I guess I didn't notice any overheating or more battery drain than normal. According to that article, the update happened on Tuesday and Facebook claims they fixed the issue on Wednesday.

I actually did notice this from messenger alone (I use the mobile site for Facebook). I thought it was just being at work instead of gone but when I uninstalled and reinstalled messenger my battery life went back to awesome.

The pixel life was still good but instead of being at 50% after work I was at 20%

Now that you mention it, I had to plug my phone in to charge Tuesday evening and I never have to do that.

These apps combine FB and Messenger. They are tiny apps that are actually just a skin of the mobile site. Will drastically improve your battery and give you more control on permissions.
Friendly for Facebook - 4.4/5

Just deleted both FB and Messenger (again). Will give these 2 a try. Hopefully talk Jocelyn into one of them since her phone battery seems to be half of mine because of her FB usage.

I deleted mine too and got Friendly. My phone is at 30% usually when i leave for the day without really using it, so we will see how it works.

I deleted Metal and kept Friendly. I only check it like once a day and have notifications turned off. Set messages to check only every 30 minutes. I also like that you can change the color.

I added the app to Jocelyn's phone but she doesn't like it because it's different.

Facebook videos will now automatically play sound by default
Even though no one asked for that

This change means that, if your phone is not set to silent and you haven’t disabled the feature in Facebook’s mobile settings panel, every video in the News Feed will have audio fading in as you scroll past it.

I tried friendly too. I didn't like it either. I gave it a good few days before reinstalling the facebook/messenger app.
