Money "Saving" Ideas

So I kind of love doing little side tasks and saving money or getting paid/money back. I'm looking into this whole Paribus site thing. Supposedly they link into your amazon and watch your purchases for something like an additional 7-30 days (don't remember the #) and if the price drops at all, you are given the difference back.

Does anyone use paribus? Thoughts/comments?

Old thread about it. A lot of us tried it when it first came out.

Last I heard Amazon made Paribus obsolete with a policy change.

I got something like $1 back from Paribus between 2 or 3 purchases and haven't gotten anything back since. Like Tyler said, I don't think it really does much anymore.

I use Ibotta for groceries. I can usually get $.25 - $1 a week. After I save $20 or so, I can redeem that for an amazon gift card. You can get other giftcards or deposit the money straight into a paypal account.

I also use ebates when shopping online. I don't use it too often because only certain Amazon departments are on there. If you shop online a lot, you are really missing out by not using this.

We got an AmEx last year with 6% cash back at grocery stores and 3% at gas stations. I sat on the points and cashed them all out in December for Amazon gift cards and it's like we didn't have to spend money on Christmas gifts for family. Will do the same thing this year.

Life hack from Corey. Buy gift cards for restaurants at the grocery store and it's like getting 6% when you eat out too

Mint.com. Easier to save money when you know what you're sending it on.

I need to update Mint. I kind of used it a long time ago but got out of the habit and I haven't updated it with new info in a couple years.

Interesting. Seems like a good way to visualize where your money goes, but you miss out on benefits of using a card.

In the words of Storage Wars
When the storage doors open, our favourite treasure hunters jostle, needle and cajole one another to get their hands on the best stuff in Storage Wars from A&E®. Here, abandoned lockers are a hot commodity, cash is king, and the art of storage buying has never been more valuable

I feel like that's not the same thing. I'm not aware of a credit card that gives 6% cash back on abandoned storage locker purchases.

Also, thank you for finding that whole quote just for those three words.

I mined DogeCoins for a week. I spent more on electricity than I earned.

Here's an old thread where we talked about working side jobs for Beer Money
Wagner took this very literal and got a side job at a brewery
Corey has done Lyft, Uber, and now Amazon delivery. He even got his wife, Megatron, into it. I think they do that 2 nights a week at most because getting a time slot is very competitive

We did great at saving for a house down payment. However with me taking the winter of work, having a baby, and Sarah starting her MBA it's very hard to have anything extra to save. Now that I'm back at work my goal is to save enough so we can take an extended vacation to Iowa this winter.

It's nice to go somewhere tropical during the winter.
