Bradley is the head golf coach for a high school. So many questions!
-When do you start? Is this current season done?
-Boys or girls?
-Is it the HS of the town you live in? How big is the town and school?
-Do they practice at the course you work at?
-How common is it for a couch NOT to teach at the school or even district? I can't think of this happening at SHS
-I assume it pays enough to justify you not working evenings at the course
-Is there a JV coach you can boss around?

-it's a fall sport August through October
-coed sport in Maine
- school uses my golf course as it's home course. I had been JV coach for 2 years. We live 30 minutes away.
-school is probably twice the size of shs
-its common for golf coaching, a lot of head pros are the local schools coach.
-the pay is meh, it's more of a nice bonus than anything. I will still be working 40 hours a week.
-there is going to be a jv coach not much bossing around by me that's the parents job.

I was honestly going to give up coaching the JV team this year because it was too much work and I didn't see eye to eye with the previous varsity coach. Found out he left and figured I'd give the varsity job a shot. Decent pay bump between the two positions also.

Football is fall, but not as big in Maine.

I'll tease you as much as I want

Revisiting this teaser for you Tyler. I will be the Head professional next season. I will also own the golf shop. So I will be in charge of our good operation as well as owning my own business.

A lot of work to do over the winter to set up accounts with all the brands I want to sell and get orders in on time to have it ready for may 1.

I don't technically assume the role until Jan 1. But u have already started getting the paperwork done for my business.

Yeah it's kind of strange to own a business that operates within another business. Very nice perk of the job though.

Do you lease the space from the clubhouse?
How much nicer/bigger is it than Sheldon's? Not the actual course, but memberships and customers

I don't pay anything for the space. I get a very low salary and take on all the risk associated with owning the merchandise, so it saves the course money. If they owned the shop I would have asked for 50% more in salary at least.

Compared to Sheldon it's not even close. We are closer to Orange City or Sioux Center in pricing and quality.

If you own the business don't you set your own salary (to some extent)?
On Shark Tank all of those people own their own businesses and set the salary based on their revenue and how much they want to be invested back into the business.

So I am still employed by the golf course and they own the space where I own and sell merchandise. They pay my salary to run the golf operation. I will purchase all the goods that are normally sold in pro shops (clothes, clubs, balls, etc) and sell it. If I make a profit on that merchandise I keep it all in addition to my salary.

If I leave my position at the course I technically still have a business and I could take all the merchandise I have not sold with me. I just wouldn't have a space to sell it.

I am purchasing what my boss has left at the end of this season to be able to sell it next year. Very common practice.

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining. Salary + sales sounds nice. Let us know when we should start buying underwear from you.

Golf is so expensive. I remember when I was a kid the city pass was like $100 and yo ucould go as much as you wanted. I really should have taken advantage of that. Instead I played video games.

Thinking about this again I don't regret it. I am still upset that it's $30+ for 18 holes though.

Omg this is the most expensive hobby known to man.

Our prime time rate is $60 for 18 including cart. Problem is (as with everything else) our maintenance expenses keep increasing but the average holder is no longer willing or able to pay those rates. It's an interesting industry at the moment.
