wags83 wrote:Funny story about this. We have a perfect little spot for garbage cans right outside our garage. It's a 2-stall garage with an extra wide driveway and the driveway pavement extends a bit past the front edge of the garage, leaving a perfect paved spot for both the garbage and recycling. In fact, it's where the previous owners had kept their garbage cans (as far as I know, for all 10 years they lived there). When we moved in in June of 2017, I continued their tradition of keeping the garbage cans in the spot seemingly made for them. About a month or two into our tenure of living in our house, I get a letter from some C U Next Tuesday from the city saying it's a city ordinance that garbage cans cannot be visible from the street and this is my first warning and further warnings could result in fines. So after almost a decade of the garbage cans being in their spot on the side of the garage, I get bitched out after a couple months.

Anyway, I now keep them on the paved patio behind the garage, still outside but not visible from the street.
What a ride of a story.

You should put them back in that spot and see what happens. I assume they threatened the older owners and they just kept ignoring it for 10 years.

This is America! No one can tell us where to put our cans of trash!

Question of the Day

Postby DannyFanny » Fri Dec 13, 2019 9:33 am

Sleeping environment, how do you like your room or sleeping area?

If I want a good night's sleep, I have to have the room as dark as I can get it and a fan on for constant, consistent noise. I've gone so far as to putting tape over led lights on devices because they disturb me.

Maria on the other hand, needs a tv on to fall asleep.

It's a good thing she goes to bed multiple hours before me, so she is asleep by the time I get to bed.

I used to be in the TV before bed team, but now I'll spend a little time in my phone in bed but the room is dark as can be. I can't imagine going back to having a TV in the bedroom.

Before moving in together, Jocelyn always had a TV on too. No TV for us now.

I like it dark too, but since we have Oliver in the bedroom I do have a nightlight just to see him easier. Fan during the summer for sure but our room is pretty cold now so no fan. Sound machine on

I used to need it pitch black, but that isn't as much a factor anymore. I also keep a fan on year round just for the sound. If I forget to turn it on, the silence seems to weird so I'll get up and turn it on. I usually watch TV for a bit before bed, but I don't fall asleep with the TV on, always turn it off before trying to fall asleep.

I also like it cooler in the room so that the blankets are more cozy to be under, but I think that's pretty much everyone in the world.

Also, I've heard of people who wear socks to bed. Wearing socks while to bed is weird.

Depends on the family.

In laws- prime rib
Parents- pasta bar (this year, usually roast beef but sister is a recent vegetarian)

If we are alone- probably nothing special

Ham is good.
If we are in Sheldon with my parents it is Spaghetti Christmas Eve.
We don't really have a tradition with the 4 of us yet. This year my parents are bringing Prime Rib for us to cook.

My parents, ham. Last few years my mom has been doing the Hy-Vee deal at Thanksgiving where you buy a ham and get a turkey free. In-laws always do lasagna.

We usually go to Erin's aunt/uncle's for dinner Christmas Eve and it's always pheasant (the specific recipe changes yearly). At my parents' we had done prime rib a few years, but we've been doing steaks the last couple. That's usually the weekend after Christmas.

I received a new bedside alarm clock for Christmas. While replacing it I realized I had my old one for over 30 years. What is your oldest piece of technology that you use regularly?

I also have an old school alarm clock still working in my house. It was in my own bedroom up until maybe a year ago when I replaced it with one of the Insignia/Best Buy brand Google Homes. It now sits in the spare bedroom.

Nothing all that impressively old comes to mind that I would use regularly. I think I was probably the last person in the world to regularly use an iPod classic, but I haven't regularly used that in a long time either.

How much memory was that?

I gave away my first plasma TV over the weekend. It was 11 years old. I bought it for college.
The wireless keyboard on my desktop is 12 years old. I replaced the mouse last year on it.
Trying to think if I inherited any kitchen appliances, but none come to mind.

My laptop is like 6 years old. That would be the thing I use with regularity.
I have an iPod Classic but don't get a whole lot of use out of it unless I want to listen to something I didn't move over to my iPod Touch.
I occasionally play my GameCube. I still have my TV from high school but haven't used it for a few years.
