Been 12 years since a category 3+ hit US soil.

Looks like it's still a category 2 but is on track to be upgraded to 3 by the time it hits.

Have you experienced a hurricane in the time you've lived down there? I imagine it's pretty nerve-racking.

Do you have to do any precautions at your house?

nope, hurricane hasn't hit texas soil since 2008 (Ike) so its been almost 10 years.

"luckily" for us we are on the dirty side (more rain/less wind). direct impact is 6 hours south of us. Scary part is that its developing so slow meaning it likely will stall and sit for a few days which causes devastation. scariest/worst case scenario right now is it hits sat am, sits two days, dips back in gulf and reenters land as a cat. 2 through galveston. if that happens.. itll be like katrina bad

no prep here other than taking everything from back deck (uncovered) and putting in garage... lawn chairs, girls toys, grills. we are suppose to "only" get 30 mph winds but the rain totals look unfathomable.

its absolutely horrific.

my school district has already cancelled classes until Tuesday, September 5th at the earliest.

about 4-5 schools in our district have taken water/gotten damaged (my school included)

seeing neighborhoods where my kids live that are underwater is a deep pain.

our area has already had 27 inches of rain. 20-30 more forecast.

National Weather Service said this will more than likely be the worst flooding in american history :/

Wow. That's horrible. We are thinking of you and your area. What does your immediate neighborhood look like?

immediate neighborhood is in okay shape. we have a retention pond behind us so its doing an incredible job. the roads to get out of our subdivision are impassable so we can't go anywhere. however the actual subdivision is fine, our drains run to the gulf so they wont get backed up thankfully.

Thanks Jocelyn, truly means a lot.

I'm really not trying to make this about me, im sorry if this post portrays that. Actual Houston area is complete devastation. We are very lucky as of now no flooding of our home. As long as the retention pond doesn't crest we should be okay.

How full is the pond?

No one has basements there, correct? So no need for sump pumps or anything like that.

correct no basements. something about a high water table or something and the ground idk for sure.

well the retention pond drains to some conduits to the gulf but with constant rain it can't keep up. However, we've had about a 4 hour break from rain and its gone down several feet, very encouraging
