No mail will be delivered to parts of 10 states as polar vortex chills postal delivery
So much for "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night." The U.S. mail won't be delivered Wednesday in large swaths of at least 10 states due to the crippling cold of the polar vortex.
The USPS announced that no mail will be delivered in parts of Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Some retail offices of the postal service will be open, but couriers won't be delivering any mail to those areas.

Re: Polar Vortex
-19 base temp is probably the coldest I've ever seen. Only down to -40 wind chill. Wanted to see that -50.
My boss encouraged us to work from home today.

It was -22 driving to work this morning. I should have stayed home.

Low of -29 again tonight. We hit -50 wind chill this morning. Erin's office was closed today, I still went in to work though.

we were close to what Wags had. was cold last evening this evening was still in negatives but no wind made it seem not bad at all
Polar Vortex
The funny part is that we are supposed to get into the upper 30's and rain this weekend. 70 degree swing in a few days, more if you count wind chill.

Re: Polar Vortex
It was weird this morning to easily open the sliding door for the first time since moving in. I thought maybe it was a crappy door, but nope, just frozen for the past 8 days

was the house easy to keep warm?
Re: RE: Polar Vortex
The master bedroom on the main floor was 5 degrees colder than the rest of the house. Maybe because of the big window. Basement was also a little chillyHuss Buss wrote:Tyler wrote:Source of the post It was weird this morning to easily open the sliding door for the first time since moving in. Hasn't been as cold the past couple of weeks, but we aren't getting much break from the snow. Not as bad as bmyoungs usually gets in Maine, but it's the most I've seen since being a homeowner starting in 2015.
Des Moines is currently at 39.1 inches of snow since January 11. We could break our 40-day snowfall record of 43.5 inches set back in 1912, with the snowfall expected Tuesday night and Wednesday.
It took me until then worse stretch of snow in 107 years to considering snow blower. I'm glad I didn't get the one yesterday! I'll be fine after this year.

We are about to break the February snow total record tonight. I'm so glad I got a snowblower this year.
Polar Vortex
I'm pretty sure you've had more snow than us this year. *Knock on wood* we usually have a couple foot+ storms each year
