Or other food delivery services. We are using GH for the first time ever tonight. Getting Chinese delivered. We are so hip. $5 tip included, so we good?

You are sooooooo hip!

If you included a tip on the app, I think that's fine. That's how I've always done it. Don't have to exchange cash that way.

Jocelyn did it on the desktop like a boomer. Idk if $5 was the default tip or not.

Is said delivery was "free". Is that always the case? Do they just charge like 15% more across the menu and then say delivery is free + driver tip? Do the drivers just sit around high food traffic areas and wait for orders? How do the restaurants receive the orders?

First order was probably free delivery. I have never used a delivery service. I'm not ever sure if there is a delivery service available in Boone. I'm sure Ames has it.

Yeah, most of those services offer first delivery free, but I think sometimes there's an additional "service fee". Delivery fees vary based on how busy it is/how popular a certain restaurant is. For us, deliver fees on the low side are $2.99, but can be as high as $6.99 or more. I guess I haven't directly compared menu prices, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was also slightly more, seems like my totals are always higher than they would be in restaurant.

FYI, those services LOVE to F over the driver of their tips. They'll do things like give the driver a guaranteed $10 for a delivery then they will subtract the tip so if you gave a $5 tip, Grubhub pays them $5 and the other $5 comes from the tip. This is the way it was with Amazon Prime Now when I delivered from restaurants. They can still say the driver is getting the entire tip technically but its basically just reducing Grubhubs delivery cost for the order. I always thought everyone was being cheap fucks when I'd get a $1 (or more likely, nothing) tip until I found that out.

Cash tip is way better for the drivers in these scenarios.

I had heard that. I still mostly just tip through the app, since I don't often have cash. I should change that. Next time I order through delivery services, I'll tip cash!

Ah. We will do cash next time. I remember PostMates getting a lot of bad press for that. We don't have that service here

I noticed in the GrubHub app that it specifies that all tips go directly to the deliverer. I don't know what to believe!

I saw that online too when we ordered. Shame on me for believing that? Or maybe they all changed it after the bad press?

I had this in my earlier post:
