You are right, its not like all the weight is on that front 2x4, it is spread over everything.

I must only be like a level 3 woodworker. To me it just sounds like family time in the woodshop. "Lookout kids! Dad-o's gonna make a cut! Sister, hand me another brace!"

Disclaimer: I do know what a dado cut is. Researching sister now.

I want to redo the flooring in the basement. We replaced the carpeted areas a year ago or so, but the rest has not been touched. Need to find a kid-free time for Erin and I to look at options.

Looks like you added a bedroom, toyroom, bathroom, laundry, and living room with an office corner?
Both girls share a bedroom in the basement? What are you doing with their room on the main floor? Are they (and you) okay with them being on a different floor? My 5 year old would not go for that, we can't even go to the basement to watch TV until she is asleep.

Was there not main floor laundry before, or now do you have 2 laundry rooms?

yep and thank you! They've done ok since they're together. Upstairs bedroom we had before is for the new baby now. Only bad part of 2 beds up and 2 beds down. Would love to have a house that is 3 up instead

The bathroom you added looks exactly like the one we are adding in our basement, except our shower valve is on the opposite side. How wide is your vanity? I have a feeling ours will be the same width as we bought a similar light fixture.
