Mechanical Keyboards

Postby Tyler » Mon May 22, 2017 6:52 am

I've had the same wireless keyboard for over 10 years. I've been seeing mechanical keyboards on Slickdeals and thought about updating, but I have a question, why don't these keyboards have number pads typically? I don't want to replace an old keyboard with a new one that is missing that.

I just got this for my birthday:
https://www.razerzone.com/c/Razer-Black ... 30100-R3M1

Along with the naga hex v2, and the firefly chroma :D

The keyboard is pretty loud in comparison to the one i had before (Razer Anansi). It has some razer switch that is comparable to MX Chery Blues.

Feels really good for gaming though!

MULTI-AWARD WINNING RAZER™ MECHANICAL SWITCHES
WOW!!

Since I am a peasant and use controllers for games I have never seen the point of getting a nice keyboard, but that thing is sick looking. #hip

I've been considering them too Tyler, but I'm in the same thought of why do I want it other than looks.

Do it. Here is one with or without the num pad. It lights up!

Edit: talked myself out of it after reading SD comments.

I've seen this one on SD 3 or 4 times. Comments are always what talks me out of it.

Currently looking for a decent gaming keyboard. Budget: $100-150.
Need something that will be good for typing long papers also. I am a college senior and going to be a grad student, so I gonna spend more time in Word than gaming I suppose
Anyway. All suggestions will be much appreciated.
P.S. Corsair K70 (mechanical) seems like a great product.
(100% anti-ghosting and full key rollover on USB / 100% Cherry MX Speed gaming key switches with ultra-fast 1.2mm actuation and light 45g force)
Does anyone have experience of it?

Kyle, Wilkins, Salvo, and Crckrjack are your best bets, but I bet they aren't going to be very active until the 5th when they are back at work.

I don't understand the benefit of those keyboards. I have this set: http://www.microcenter.com/product/4562 ... (Red_Light)

I believe it's mainly a space-saving measure. One thing that can help a ton in first person shooters is reducing your mouse sensitivity so you can be more precise with your aim... but the downside to this is that you have to move your mouse a greater distance to do things like turn around. Less desk real estate devoted to the keyboard can mean more room for the mouse pad (more competitive gamers often have very big mouse pads).

Also, some computer desks (like mine) have keyboard trays that are too small for even an ordinary mouse pad and a full-sized keyboard (asinine but true... I've stopped using the tray on my desk).

In addition, I imagine that cutting the numpad may be a cost saving measure to some extent. Fewer switches, smaller boxes... it's got to save at least a few bucks for the manufacturer and retailers. And I don't think the numpad is very useful unless you're doing data entry. I think the only time I've missed it is when playing some old DOS games where it's an alternative control scheme to the arrow keys that allows for diagonal movement.
