Cloudlands : VR Minigolf

4 of us got this during the Oculus sale since we had free credit. Bmyoungs, Corey, and myself played it last night.

I think the game is a lot of fun, but I'm surprised to see it 9/10 on steam. I was disappointed with the base game only have 18 holes (that I could see), but there is a community library that you can download more holes from.

When we played most of the holes were your typical 5 or under Par minigolf holes, but there would be the occasional 40+ hole that completely threw everyone off and made scores almost pointless. It was great.

I won the first 18, I think bmyoungs won the next 2 sets.

It was fun! Great for my short game. I'd like to try more user holes since we played a lot of overly simple ones, since I was slow to download.

I made Huss buss x2, wags, and my dad play 4 player multiplayer with my dad's windows headset. They all had fun.

I also learned a new button command. Clicking the trigger teleports you right to the ball vs having to find it and manually teleporting.

I somehow didn't have to play the tutorial the other day when we played so I missed that. When I set it up last night for my dad I played through it though.

Brad and I played a random set of user created 18 holes. We are favoriting the good ones so we can build up a list of holes we can choose from.

The game was being pretty glitchy and I'm glad it was for both of us, not just me. It was auto teleporting you to the ball, which it never did before. I was also missing the ball a lot whenever I was swining because my playspace was jumping all over.

I have never felt as motion sick as that in VR. It was bouncy as hell and since I only have two sensors it was jittery whenever I was out of sight. Guess this fall I'll have to pick up another sensor. I hope they fix the issues because it is a fun game, I'd also love more than the 18 standard holes since it seems like not many user generated ones exist

From the thread I made on Reddit:
So I thought it was auto teleporting you to the ball as well, but figured out that it's not actually auto teleporting you. When you pull the right trigger it snaps you to the ball. But for some reason you don't actually have to pull the trigger to snap. Since the trigger is capacitive, it detects your finger resting on the trigger as an actual trigger pull. Very annoying and the dev needs to fix it so that you just have to pull the trigger and not touch it. For now, just keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to snap to the ball.

That is very dumb but makes sense why it wasn't consistent

I want to play again and test the theory. It is a good reason tho, but I'm not convinced.

I'm convinced. Game played fine if you didn't touch the trigger. Good workaround, but this needs addressed.

Doing a mini golf tournament today. VR has paid off. I've gotten a hole in one and lowest on the team for a few holes.

I played Cloudlands 2 for about an hour tonight on the Quest in the garage. It was amazing.

Low poly graphics, physics that are good enough, bad accuracy. I loved it. It will be more fun playing with bmyoungs next time.

My garage is slightly sloped and it was throwing me off big time for some shots, but it was worth playing in the bigger space. I could walk around the ball all I wanted. I think I prefer the mini golf holes, but the full sized holes also offered a new challenge since you could do a driver and wedge. I ended up turning down the power to 0.6 because I wanted to feel the swing more.

Played some more Cloudlands 2. This game is awesome. I played in the basement instead of the garage and my gameplay suffered from it because I wouldn't commit full power even though I had the space.

bmyoungs, do you like the mini golf holes more or the full sized golf ones? I think I would like 60% mini and 40% full.

My only complaint to the game is the club power. By default the putter and wedge are WAY too powerful. A tiny swing of just the wrist will blast the ball clear across the green. The driver's default seems okay, but I bumped it up a little bit.

Driver - 1.2x
Wedge/Iron - 0.8x
Putter - 0.6x

These seem to work pretty well, but there are levels where you need to hit the ball higher than normal and I found myself twinking these settings almost as much as I am golfing. I think if I was in the garage playing it would have been mostly okay.

I changed the driver to 2.0x just out of curiosity. You hit the ball into space! It soars over the entire level and then some.

I didn't try the mini golf holes the only time I played. I assumed I'd enjoy them the same as the first game. I 100% agree about the club power scale. I didn't dive in and adjust it though but will next time.

I loved the game though and would like to see some longer more difficult holes. Once I got used to the aim I could hit almost every green first try.

Wow. Show off!

If you play campaign it alternates between both hole types.

Bmyoungs and i played 18 holes last night. This game is so much fun with friends. Everyone buy a Quest just for this.

Some holes had par 12+. It is crazy we ended the game within 2 strokes of each other when some holes would vary so much. I would have won if I didn't let Jocelyn try a complicated mini-golf hole.

We used the same power strength settings to make it fair. There was one hole we had to change it because it was impossible...., but we changed it the same way so it remained fair.

Brad is really good at putting once on the green. It usually takes 2-3 of my strokes to his one once we are on the green.
