I forgot you still had a CV1. Yes, absolutely get a Quest to use standalone and tethered.

Good luck selling your CV1 for more than $100 though.

Yeah, I assume it won't be worth much, but I've gotten my money's worth out of it. Just looked on ebay and it looks like the asking prices are $145-$170, higher than I expected.

Asking and sold for are two very different things, but to my surprise, the sold prics are tending closer to $225 with the 3rd sensor

Ah, good call. I didn't even specify 3rd sensor.

Oculus Link support is out. I'm reading the quality is comparable to Rift but falls short of Rift S in picture clarity

I'll just never touch a Rift S so if/when I get a Quest, there will be no difference for Link.

You do need to buy a USB C PCIE card and an $80 cable.

No, You have a card that added more USB 3.0 ports. You need 3.1/C, like what plugs into your Pixel phone.

Ohhhh, you're right. Yeah, I don't have that. That's stupid.

You are going to use the Quest mostly PC-free for the most part, so it doesn't matter. But yes, you would need to spend like $100 if you wanted to tether it to your PC to place Asgard's Wrath...which I am buying with birthday money I've decided.

Why would anyone wait to pay $80 for a cable when there's a way cheaper one already available and recommended? Or am I missing something? I do see it's backordered and that it's pretty short - probably would want something longer I suppose.

Also, they did not have the 980ti on the list of support GPUs that can use link, but I see on Reddit that people are saying it does work.

I guess the difference is the cable length and one is made by Oculus so FB tax.

Interesting about the 980ti. I read 970 wasn't supported but assumed 980ti would be officially

Yeah, everything I read specifically mentioned the 970 is not supported but 980ti was never listed anywhere one way or another.

Had a large group over last night for friendsgiving on Jocelyn's side of friends. Quite a bit of VR was played with Acron, pistol Whip, SOT, cloud lands, etc. The guys took turns on it all night. First or second VR experience for most of them. Those that had done it before used Rift S. They thought it was very cool they could play without a PC or tethered cable. No one said or mentioned "dumb down" graphics, they were too busy being impressed. Was a good example of people just wanting user friendly standalone VR

Do you have a circle Chromecast? The screen share works really nicely. Virtually no lag. Very helpful to be able to see what is going on to walk people through menus and people like to watch
