Westworld buzz

Postby Tyler » Fri Sep 30, 2016 2:10 pm

TL;DR - I forgot I'm a TV nerd and I shouldn't be surprised when people at work talk about the NCIS spinoff and haven't heard of Westworld.

Outside of this forum, has anyone heard anyone talking about this show? I just asked my coworkers if anyone was watching this Sunday and my response was crickets chirping. Only one of them had even heard of it. I work in IT, meaning I work with a lot of geeky and nerdy guys, so I was surprised there wasn't a lot of buzz around this show.

My parents watch Game of Thrones. There is almost a zero chance that they have any idea this show is starting or what it is about. Season 6 GoT finale brought in 8 million*** viewers. The s01 premiere was 2 million. I am curious of Westworld can beat that number. Maybe it will take 2 or 3 seasons for Westworld to penetrate the "average" viewer market.

I would consider GoT mass-appeal fantasy, much like LotR, but less nerdy. Westworld is mass-appeal sci-fi. If people liked Stranger Things then they should be excited for Westworld.

***23 million viewers when all forms of viewing are counted - that’s originals, repeats, DVR and streaming

Can Westworld Do for Science Fiction What Game of Thrones Did for Fantasy?

The Nielsen linear ratings for the series premiere of HBO’s new drama series Westworld are not available yet, but I’ve learned that in its first night, the futuristic epic based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 movie drew 3.3 million total viewers on TV and on the HBO Go/HBO Now streaming platforms

Interesting. So it beat GoT premiere, but HBO didn't have all of the streaming services set up back then.

I only heard about it from other TV nerds I used to work with at Verizon. Sarah's brother had heard of it but not watched.

Werd, still not a household name like GoT. I know of a few people that are going to get a month of HBO Now and binge it, that's a smart move.

My old roommates watched and liked it. I don't really hear people at work talk about it like they do TWD.
