Star Trek

Postby wags83 » Sun Mar 31, 2013 10:47 pm

New Star Trek movie looks neat. I enjoyed that last one that they made. I should go back and watch the originals, that's a franchise that I've never gotten into.

I really really liked the first one, but I don't care about the show at all.

Maybe I liked it so much because part of it happened in Iowa?

Original series was really good and every even numbered movie is pretty awesome. I'm really excited for the new one because it looks like they're bringing back Khan.

Just finished Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. I think it was the only one of the original series of movies that I hadn't seen, boy did I enjoy it. I'm taping the journey home now while I go and run errands...debating to include going to a matinee of Into Darkness as an errand lol "pulling a Pottebaum"

For anyone interested in this you need to watch the episode Space Seed and Wrath of Khan to fully appreciate it. A lot of references.

Based off of my very limited Star Trek knowledge and seeing the first movie, I think the movie from a few years ago retells the story of Captain Kirk. So TOS can be ignored I suppose?

No previous Trek experience or knowledge needs to be had to enjoy the latest movies, but, as Wallinguana pointed out, you gain a lot of appreciation for some of the plot points and references made if you have some. The original TV series is very dated and may be hard to watch but the movies were drastically improved and as enjoyable as ever! The second I recommend (Wrath of Kahn) because it is referred to momentarily in the new movie and its got a few great references!

Just left the theater, what a ride! I really enjoyed this one, just as much as Abrams first one. I knew of the Kahn character a little bit so I kind of knew what was going on. Great film though!

I still wish it would have been spread out over two movies. I wanted more depth with most of the plot. I would have been satisfied if they had ended it when he said his name was Kahn.

Whoah whoah whoah not so fast! I hope you're kidding lol I'm a fan of more movies but for one story? Cut it for theatres and release an extended edition. No one would be interested in a continuation. Peter Jackson has already gotten a ton of flack or the hobbit for instance....some things are best left shorter, and, yes, done worse. We are watching movies, not mini-series

Peter Jackson more or less did a 1 to 1 for LotR books, but he made the Hobbit into 3 movies. That's excessive
