Saw this last night with Ritter and the gf.

I thought it was awesome. there were some parts where the effects were not great (dwarves in front of a green screen) but it is really awesome to see characters from a game that you have been involved in for 10 years. I thought Travis Fimmel was great, there are a few parts where he really sticks out as Ragnar though, like when he just stands in the background it is 100% Ragnar. The other actors were all okay. It's hard to judge acting when they are all motion sensor (the orcs). Garona is hot.

However I would not recommend it to anyone that didn't/doesn't play the game. It jumps around A LOT and if you don't know the characters I bet it would be very difficult to tell the orcs apart. Kathryn was like "I was really upset because I thought that I was going to have to listen to you rant about how awful the movie was."

I would see it in theaters again for sure. I also will probably get the special edition blu ray or whatever to see all of the deleted scenes and commentary and stuff.

I'm glad you like it and can acknowledge only WoW fans are going to enjoy it. I will likely never see it.

I'd back up Tim's review. There are a lot of inside jokes that only WoW players would get..and the characters would look identical to non-players.
It was great, and I don't think the acting was as bad as the critics are giving it, but if you don't play I wouldn't recommend it for you.

Good thing this movie is doing very well over seas, because it did not have a good opening weekend here.

Domestic (all values in millions)
Conjuring 2 -- $40 -- budget: $40
Warcraft -- $24 -- budget: $160
Now You See Me 2 -- $23 -- budget: n/a

I read this in an article this morning:

Warcraft posted a five-day debut of $156 million at the Chinese box office, putting its foreign tally at $261.7 million and global total at $286.1 million through Sunday. (The tentpole likely will need to earn $450 million or more to break even.)

Why would it need $450 million to break even???

The budget listed for movies never includes marketing. Marketing is at least equal to production, but usually more.
Production $160 + budget $290 = $450.
$290 million seems very high for marketing, but they did market this around the world more than most movies.

I enjoyed it enough that I would watch a sequel. There is definitely enough content/stories in the game for them to make more movies. Plus it would be cool to see more of the other races/creatures (Tauren 4 life!).

Warcraft is now the biggest video game movie of all-time
http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2016/06/w ... -all-time/

Last week we reported how The Angry Birds Movie had become the second biggest video game movie of all-time and theorised it would overtake Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in the coming weeks. Well it looks like we were a little off base as the worldwide screenings of Warcraft have propelled it to the number one position.

The Angry Birds Movie is now the third biggest video game movie of all-time, sitting $10 million behind Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and $50 million behind Warcraft.

----------------------
Warcraft also dropped by 75% for its 2nd week. That's worse than BvS 69% drop
