Oculus Rift + Touch

Postby Tyler » Mon Oct 10, 2016 2:11 pm

Forgot to mention last week that the Oculus Rift's head controls were finally announced. $199 and ships by end of year.
Rift headset ($600) + hand controls ($199) = $799

HTC Vive = $799.

They are now the same price.

yep as expected they would match vive price. Why undercut it to sell more units right!

Would have been interesting if they offered the bundle at like $750, but that would make current Rift owners mad who have to pay $800 to get it all. Maybe they should have done $150 for anyone who preordered the Rift. That would have been cool to those that already own it and its a way of thanking customers for sticking with them.

Tested this week really makes me want to try these controls. I know they have them at a mall to try.

The Rift is now $100 cheaper and the hand controls are $100 cheaper. All in the Rift is $600.

Jocelyn gave me her blessing if I want to spend part of my bonus on it. I'll see how I feel about it at the end of the month. I told Tylersucks/Cwilkins they could pay and be part owners in it if they wanted.

I don't think I can justify this. Salvo even has a friend selling a Vive for $500 and I can't pull the trigger. I don't think I would use it more than a couple hours a week. If Tylersucks wanted to split it 50/50 I think I would do it. Luckily we work 2 minutes apart so it wouldn't be a huge hassle to hand it back and forth

That's the same reason I don't have one. Very hard to justify that kind of money on a product in its infancy.

If this was pre-parenthood I would pull the trigger right now. Gone are the days of unlimited free time, and I don't miss them!

I still have an urge to get this since the price drop. I think I'm going to hold out until this fall. Summer would be a horrible time to buy into VR. This fall might have another price drop (or very unlikely, news about v2).

Want encouragement? I would love to compare this to Vive's controls (so get it!).

WOW! I'll talk to Jocelyn about it tonight. I read it is this price for 6 weeks, so plenty of time to decide.

Newegg, Best Buy, and Amazon all have it for this price. Newegg doesn't have tax, so that's a plus, but Amazon is probably easiest to work with if something goes wrong. Best Buy has $30 off $300 with my credit card.

Order total: $422.94 with tax on Amazon. I'll leave it in my cart for a bit and see what happens.

And it's in stock just 1 block away from my work. I want instant gratification if I'm going to do this.

It's so tempting to run over there during lunch and get it. One of the only things holding me back is Acer's hardware coming out this holiday season. S400 gets you a headset and controllers. No outside sensors are needed for that one. It is still tethered to a PC

YOLO. I can buy this for $400 and sell it for $200-300 in 7 months if I decide I want one of the new units.

Ordering on Best Buy now and will pick up after work.
EDIT: No I'm not. My account isn't working online and I can't fix it. Guess I'll just go into the store and buy.

Wish I had $400 laying around. But it will probably be this price again towards the holidays
